Palestinian Authority seizes atheist after he criticizes Islam on Facebook and blog.

The case of the unlikely apostate, a shy barber from this backwater West Bank town, is highlighting the limits of tolerance in the Western-backed Palestinian Authority _ and illustrating a new trend by authorities in the Arab world to mine social media for evidence.

Residents of Qalqilya say they had no idea that Walid Husayin _ the 26-year-old son of a Muslim scholar _ was leading a double life.

Known as a quiet man who prayed with his family each Friday and spent his evenings working in his father's barbershop, Husayin was secretly posting anti-religion rants on the Internet during his free time.

Now, he faces a potential life prison sentence on heresy charges for "insulting the divine essence." Many in this conservative Muslim town say he should be killed for renouncing Islam, and even family members say he should remain behind bars for life.

Its sad...Im christian but thats my own choice.I don't hate other religions or atheists.One must make his/her own choice. Life time:wtf:
 
Beyond f'd up. I would break this guy out of that country. I hope he claims asylum with some good lawyers and he get's the f out that country.

Even his own family wants him behind bars for LIFE? I mean w-t-f? This is his opinion, this is how he sees LIFE.

I'm not aiming at you personally, but do you think most Christians (the ones who claim to be tolerant) would extend their tolerance to their family should a member convert from Christianity? I know a few fellow atheists who are constantly given a hard time by their religious families. All my Christian friends were indoctrinated at birth. In general it seems Christian's 'own choices' intrude on the choices of others more than they'd like to admit. My girlfriend broke up with me a month ago because it became clear to her that she wasn't going to convert me. Forgive my tone, but from my experience the 'tolerance' of Christians extends only to people/matters that don't affect them in any way.

Thats really sad. But I understand what you are saying but im the only Christian in my family so I havent experienced it (+ my gf is not a Christian).One day just too k a bible and bam. :)

I think I will perhaps make a thread, although no doubt, I'll get moaned at a lot for doing so. Watch this space. :D
