i would check out hifi corp, got myself a 40" LED Hisense for R8000, and im sure u can pick up a LED for around 3000 for the room, that my thought... never really digged the plasma idea unless u going big like 50" - 60"....
Check if you need to playback movies from the USB port, my 42LD470 (R7999) does but the earlier models dont. It was a must have for me (I use portable 500 gig drives as my media players) but maybe not important for you. Also I think in this price range rather go for LCD, the Samsung seem to have real punch (ito colour vibrancy and brightness), and I cant see anything wrong with using CCFL back-lighting, the premium paid for LED lighting is just ridiculous imo. Yes there will be some issues in light bleeding through on the black on LCD but less grainyness than plasma up close. Both not really issues unless you make a point of them being issues. Oh and my LCD panel runs VERY cool, I think its 160Watts max, I dont think LED will beat it by much, and plasma definately wont.

I was looking @ Samsung PS42C430 42" Plasma TV - R5999 yesterday as well not to shabby.

Yip, perfect! PS42C430 is amazing (if you don't need Full HD), and I've heard good things about the 32" EX400 displaying TV/sport as well (plasma would be better of course).
I'd like to know why people opt for full hd when they watch more sd tv more than anything else.Only a blu ray provides the full full 1080p def and we only watch from blu on the odd occasion.Help me understand.

I don't want to be rude, but you cannot compare a Hisense with Sony or Samsung. Not in the same league. IMHO

How important is picture quality for the bedroom? Reason why I ask is I just got the 32" HiSense HD Ready(not full) from HiFi on Friday and thats in the bedroom (bracket included and they retail for R3000-3300). Its perfect. You can also pick up a samy for R3700 if you are brand conscious (ironic that on the net the HD Ready HiSense get better customer reviews than the HD Samsungs).
Reason why I ask is that way you can allocate more funds to your 42" and perhaps even bump up the size but whatever you do, get a Full-HD and not an HD-Ready large screen. Google HD Optomial Viewing to also understand the importance of screen size 32"/42" vs 720p and 1080p.
You wont see the difference of 720p vs 1080p on your 32", but you sure as hell will see it on your 42"
Anyway, I wanna get the Full-HD Sony for the lounge and at least a 42".

The only reason why ours is in the bedroom is that with the little one (she is 2mths), we get bored sitting up all night with her in the room.
