This videotape shows Russian Navy commandos on a Somali pirate ship shortly after the pirates had captured a Russian oil tanker. The Euro Union navy that patrols these waters would not interfere because they feared there could be casualties. All explanations are in Russian with a few exceptions when a wounded pirate says something in English and the Russian Soldier comments. All conversations between the commandos are in Russian; however, the pictures speak for themselves.

The soldiers freed their compatriots and the tanker.

After capture, the Russian Navy Commandos moved the pirates back to the pirate ship, searched the pirate ship for weapons and explosives, and then they left the ship and exploded it with all remaining pirates hand-cuffed to it. The commandos sank the pirate ship along with the pirates and without any court proceedings, lawyers etc. That is, they used the anti-piracy laws of the 18th and 19th centuries where the captain of the rescuing ship has the right to decide what to do with the pirates. Usually, they were hung.

Sorry to spoil a good story.

This is precisely what needs to happen...

The pirates need to be put down and put down with brutal force.

thats the way to do it!
Mother Russia FTW!

I doubt they left the pirates on the ship. If they did Amnesty International types would be having a hissy fit.

we talking about Russia here... I don't think AI likes the Gulag either....

There was a part 1?

Yup russian tanker got attacked, but the crew locked themselves in some part of the ship the pirates could not access, russian military called in and sent the pirates "floating away" on/in a boat. The story is a bit sketchy but i am fairly sure they are swimming with the sharks

That the only way to deal with this problem as they are outside the law. There is no legal government (rule of law) in Somalia. So they live and thus must die by the rule of the gun barrel.

Now if all governments follow suit, then it will soon be safe to go back into the sea. jaws II and Jaws III spring to mind. ..:)

Erm the pirates where seated on the helipad. Fishing boats don't have a helipad. Why would the Russians bring the pirates onto their ship only to escort them back? Good on the Russians otherwise :)
