Pricing pricing pricing. Please let us know the prices. We can already connect to those placed but it's price reductions that will bring broadband to all!

And if you're going to start off by blowing thousands on a lavish launch, how can we believe you will bring down costs. At some stage the taxpayer is going to be paying for that launch function.

When 'no frills' airlines and 'no frills' cellular companies launch in the US, Europe and Asia, they come in with small, modest offices and a focus on savings. That way you know they are serious.

When more than half of the population don't have access to water and electricity in their homes. And when a fibre to your home will be pretty useless if you haven't got a PC (and electricity) to use it.

Move beyond the speech and into the reality of the situation. They're all lying to us.
 
Exactly the motives are good but why did you need a lavish launch party? Also I think 50% broadband penetration in S.A by 2015 is a pipe dream. If we have that by 2020 it would be amazing. Well I guess we will soon see how serious they are.

To imagine broadband as a basic human right in South Africa where >70% are totally illiterate is as laughable as ridding the country of corruption.
 
That would be an absolute disaster for human rights. It places human rights quite squarely into the realm of those things that Caesar (the State) deems politically expedient. Real human rights are those rights we have despite the recognition or fiat of Caesar - in fact, the main practical point is that we hold them against Caesar.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for human rights and all for broadband penetration. But we shouldn't grant the State the power to determine our rights, because real rights antecede the State and are held independently of it or anyone else, but by the very nature of being human. Anything granted by the State can be taken away by the State. So this dude talking about human rights and broadband in the same breath understands neither human rights nor the business of broadband.

This is a MARKETING PLOY and that is all! They are boosting their name all over place by saying good things, rather, things that most of us would agree with. At the end of the day, they will probably disappoint us just like NeoFAIL and rip us off . They are copying what Finland and the other Euro states have been doing by trying to declare internet as a human right(i do agree). This will make them sound real good to the public even if they don't deliver anything, clever tactics...

We have to be aware that this is business, they are in it for the cash first, especially here in SA. Do not be surprised if they start making crazy promises like "We will off you Free brown-bread along with your fiber to home subscription."

These guys are all ScamBags until proven otherwise.
 
As soon as anything becomes a human right, it wil be subsidised by the state.

I find it hilarious that some oke in africa, with an inflated ego, has proclaimed that something should be a human right.

Intergalactic travel at 10 times the speed of light should be a human right too

More than half of the people in the country dont have electricity?? Are you sure? I had no idea.
 
I like the Idea, and I think the government will do its best to make it a reality, but for one main reason, to extend the reach of RICA on every medium of communication, the more people are linked the easier it is to stay in control.
 
The only thing that matters is the price. If they can significantly undercut the incumbent fat cats then they get the thumbs up. All else is waffle.

A state-owned enterprise promising the world at a lavish launch - and you're hoping for lower prices? Where have you guys been since the last election?
