Vodacom launches R39 per month unlimited music download service

Well it's good offer just a pity it's device locked, so that means a no no for me.
 
People are fighting for the removal of DRM in music and Vodascum is promoting it.
 
Vodacom explained that the songs are DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and that the songs can only be played through the phone onto which they were downloaded. The songs are device locked, which means they cannot be transferred to another device. The service can therefore not be used on a laptop or desktop.
The service is also not zero-rated which means that users will have to budget for the data charges associated with downloading songs

The DRM kills it for me too. If I cant pull it over to my laptop then it aint worth it for me. Good idea though. Sure there are people that will enjoy the service. Many people nowadays use phones as MP3 players. But not me. I like my proper headphones and BASS pumped to the max. :-)
 
As someone who was a Nokia Comes With Music subscriber, and basically lost about 5500 tracks when they updated their store (and forgot how to re-license their own tracks)... no. Just no. DRM is probably the biggest reason piracy is so successful. I can't see how this won't go the same way. I'd rather pay for net radio - at least they don't lie about you only loaning the music for a short time.

The size per song is around 4MB, which means that the data costs for downloading a single track will typically be between R0.68 and R8.00 depending on the data service and bundle size the subscriber uses.

Lol it's a marketing ploy again. You still get charged for the Bandwidth you are using! Which in turn will make this not beneficial to the consumer at ALL. Please read between the lines. VodaScum is not here to help us but to scam us.

So if Nokia and Vodacom can sell music via online stores, what is stopping Apple from giving us iTunes in SA???
 
I don't understand, surely DRM means that once I have purchased the song that it's mine for life?

What Vodaspam is selling is Device Right Music - Music that you never own that only ever plays on one device.
If you swap out the device, accidentally get it wet, or it gets stolen, WHAM, your entire collection is gone.

Seems quite damn expensive then.

Or perhaps this is meant to be used to increase the resale value of my phone? Seems pretty damn stupid.
 
I don't need this in my life.

A phone is to call people and to get calls from people.
If you want a mp3 player, get a mp3 player!!!
