My TV turns funny colours

Anyone ever have problems with their TV turning purple and/or green? Mine goes purple from the corners first then green in the middle.

We thought Our last TV was broken so we got a new one but the same thing is happening. They are both tube TVs.

I think it may have to do with the power going off but I'm not sure. The only way to fix it is to unplug the TV for a while.

Any thoughts?
 
Our Panasonic does a similar thing if you pull the plug out or have a power problem. The TV is not that old.

Old TV's show they are about to die when one of the colours is missing. Things would appear red if green is missing; for example.
 
Do you have any type of speaker or magnet near the tv? The magnetic field from a magnet tends to cause these problems aswell.

+1. If there is any sort of magnetic device or interference around the TV, then remove the device and then unplug you tv for as long as possible. When you plug it in again, then it should be better.

Also going to +1 as my Dad had exact same problem. Only after removing everything around it (speakers, electric cables, etc) did we see it was interference.
 
+1 on the speakers.

If you move the speakers you will actually see the green and purple move on the screen.

My old sony does that every few months, i checke din the manual has something to do with magnetic build up, just unplug for about 15 minutues and plug back in and it will be fine till it ocurs again
 
I had the Subwoofer or "that big box" from the home theatre system next to my tv for years and the tv is now green and it don't look like it is coming right even after i moved it to another room.
 
@satanboy - it's not the tube because it has happened exactly the same with both tvs.

We spent ages trying to figure out what could be causing interference. The centre speaker was on top of the tv but we have moved that. We moved the subwoofer for a while and it still happened. We have the DVD player right there but we're not moving that.

So I guess we just reset it every month or so when it happens!
 
Seems your CRT TV is, somehow or other, getting magnetised and, surprisingly, *not* autodegaussing itself at switch on the way TVs are supposed to (you ever notice how they make a low-freq. 'bong' sound and the image bounces around some? ..that's degaussing happening).

So, clearly, the thing to do is degauss that mofo yourself ..with a drill! (oh and magnets, it's ALL about the magnets!) :D

Oh yes, we tried degaussing using a speaker magnet but gave up and switched it off and unplugged it. Then it magically fixed itself, so perhaps it can't degauss enough at times. There is a definite correlation with power cuts (perhaps surges related to power cuts?).
