Besides having the critically-acclaimed Alex Garland writing a story for it (he also wrote the praised 28 Days Later), the upcoming Halo movie production adds another big, nay a huge name to its roster. The Oscar-winning director of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, Peter Jackson, will be the executive producer on the movie. And not only that, he brings along WETA Digital as the film's acting special effects house. So that means Gollum-quality CGI effects.

Universal Producer Mary Parent spoke on behalf of herself and Producer Scott Stuber on the hiring of Peter Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh: "First, let me just say how honored and excited Scott and I are to be involved in this project. As huge fans of the game ourselves we know how high the bar is. We've made it our mission to try and involve the absolute very best people one can imagine in every capacity. Having developed a great relationship with Peter and Fran through the extraordinary Kong experience, and seeing first hand just how unique a filmmaking environment they have crafted, we approached them about the possibility of coming aboard to Exec Produce. Not surprisingly, they were already avid fans of the game, and given our existing shorthand, they said yes! To be able to continue our relationship with them - on HALO of all projects - is really a dream come true for us in the biggest possible way.

Peter Jackson, as announced earlier, will be the executive producer on the Halo movie, along with his wife, Fran Walsh. They recieved a seven figure advance against gross points. I don't know what that means, but it sounds like a ****load (millions) of money.

Also, all of Halo will be filmed in New Zealand. This fits in with the current plan to make New Zealand the world's largest movie set by 2015. Read more.

Also, I didn't hear any rumors that Chris Tucker will be playing a much sassier Master Chief. This is completely false. And no one under any circumstances should think that it has any basis in reality. Although I'm sure someone out there insists that it is entirely true, and this is already making its way around forum boards everywhere.

Halo rocks !!!.

I have the PC version of the game and really liked the atmosphere and the interesting backstory (Forerunners/Flood/Covernant) of the game and esp the rather crazy "The Flood" level.
