Hey,

I have tried to google this tv and well come up with nothing really other than pricecheck.co.za results. Cant even find it on the telefunken website.

Does anyone know if this tv is any good and if the usb is movie friendly?
and how bad does it compare to Samsung 50" Plasma PS50C550 for R11999?

WOuld u spend the extra R4000?

Would be using it for DSTV HD, Media Playback via DVD (upscaler) and or hard drive, and eventually a blu ray surround sound system

I would suggest the Samsung PS50C430 which is 720P and as far I have have read and been advised there is no big difference between the 720P and the 1080P sets.

I bought mine for exactly the same purpose you did.
 
Agreed with JUGGY - you won't get better value for money than the 42/50C430 range if you want branded.

Otherwise, I have heard good things about these "no name" (okay, Telefunnyken is a bit more established than some other no names :D) full HD plasmas. IIRC you can pick them up for closer to R6000. Cheaper plasmas will be a lot more forgiving than cheaper LCDs.

Maybe mercurial will reply to this thread, I think he's getting one.

A "one day only deal" site in SA had Euroline 42" FHD plasmas for R4099 2 days ago... Users are reporting good things...

Yeah, I'm kinda still deciding but from what I've seen, the Telefunken sets look really good. Ster Digital Sound and Vision has a Telefunken 42" Full HD plasma for R5900 and the 50" for R9000 IIRC.

Its uses a LG panel

It is a good deal

You could play movies through a blu player, if you going to get one later on

Actually, Telefunken uses Samsung panels and they use their own or either the Phillips mainboards cos the Samsung ones seem to fail a lot lately. I compared the Telefunken 40"/42" LED right next to the Samsung 40"/42" LED and it destroyed the Samsung.

$799 HD Telefunken Plasma Blitzes Big Brand TVs

Forget about Samsung LG or Panasonic the #1 plasma TV brand in Australia last week was a 42” HD Telefunken TV that sold for $799 in K Mart according to the latest GFK sales data.

A brand name from the past Telefunken made its name in Australia during the era of CRT TV's when it was seen as a premium brand that sold alongside other German brands such as Loewe and Grundig.

Now distributed by Yale Prima the brand is set to make a major reappearance in Australia across both LCD and Plasma TV's and a range of audio products.

In Europe the brand has had a rocky ride but it is now in safe hands after investors linked with Daimler Mercedes took over the Company late last year.

In Australia Yale Prima carry no stock instead they work with mass market retailers like K Mart, Target and Aldi in the development of "ideal products" that have appeal and can be shifted quickly said Leonard Kirsch the Sales Director at Yale Prima a Sydney based distributor.

"We believe that the consumer is moving away from some of the big brands like a Sony, Samsung or LG to brands like Telefunken which is a known brand, a European brand and one that we can deliver into the Australian market at a reasonable price". He said.

"Currently we are working with K Mart to deliver a range of 15 new Telefunken audio products. This will be exclusive to Kart, however we are open to working with the likes of Harvey Norman or JB Hi Fi with other products that we have access to if the price and margin is right. We know that we can grow the Telefunken brand in Australia across both audio and display products". He added.

"We believe that a big change is taking place in the market. The big brands like Sony or Samsung are not buying market share anymore instead they are looking for profitability and as such we have seen significant price rises from the likes of Sony during the past few months.

This plays into our hands as consumers are looking at the specs that we can deliver with a Telefunken product and what the likes of Sony and Samsung can deliver and after discovering that they are similar they are opting for the Telefunken product because it is a brand that they know from the past is a reliable brand".

Yeah, I have the catalogues as well.
 
My parents bought a Telefunken CRT 54cm TV about 30 years ago and it still is working fine to this day. No repairs or anything. It is not the primary TV anymore but is in one of the spare rooms.

Not the same company from back then. They were bought over by other companies.
