Sony HT-STR500 & Mede8er & SD CRT Logik TV - No sound on Sony using HDMI

Hi Guys,

As the title suggests. I cannot get any sound on the Sony using HDMI.

Config:


Mede8er -> HDMI out -> Sony -> BD HDMI In using HDMI cable
Mede8er -> Composite Out -> Logik TV -> AV1 using standard RCA cables

Does this make sense?
Should I change settings on the Mede8er?

When I use:
Mede8er -> Optical out -> Sony -> Video Optical In using Optical cable
there is sound...
 
Does the mede8er support sound out over both the RCA & HDMI at the same time?
 
Don't know the HT-STR500 at all, but I do know that there are quite a few receivers that only does HDMI passthrough and switching, but it will not actually decode the audio signal from the HDMI input. This is still useful, so that you don't have to change the source on your display panel as well when you change sources on the receiver, but you would then have to connect the optical or coaxial audio between the Mede8er and the receiver as well.

... or it might be that the STR500 cannot decode that sepcific codec ... try changing the Audio output in the Mede8er's settings to something other than bitstream ..., ie, let the Mede8er do the decoding.

As I understand the Sony only does pass through. But that would mean this isn't a HD amp?
I have set it up to use the optical cables.

Correct, have to use optical to the receiver.

It accepts HDMI video from multiple sources and sends it through to the TV over 1 HDMI cable - so still useful.

after reading this i went and got a optical cable i must say it sounds awesome....
 
not sure it this is related at all but I had my media player hooked up to a Sony LCD and I also had no sound via HDMI

tried all sorts of things, swapping out leads, changing HDMI format, editting sound sources etc etc

turns out you have to have the media player booted ready to roll when you switch on the tv

Unfortunately this does not apply.

That's weird. I would have thought media player to TV could do sound over HDMI.

I have tested this with the amp.

HDMI from Mede8er to Sony Amp.
Booted the Mede8er and played a sound file.
Switched on the Sony Amp, no sound. It actually says "No Input" even though the HDMI sign is on.
While everything is on, I plugged in the Optical Cable and there was sound.

Sadly, it seems that the Sony Amp only has video pass through...
I still think that means it is not an HDMI capable amp.
 
sure.... it defeats the purpose of 1 cable for everything... but given the floor of the amp, it does pump for the money you pay...

Agreed. The amp does provide extremely good value for money.
I can actually life with two cables... :)

The fact that it has HDMI ins and outs makes it a HDMI amp. :D

Just doesn't do pass-through. An amp alone that does pass-through costs more than the entire Sony package.

Amazing value for money.
