Imported Blackberry phones - Would you buy them?

So, would you? If it came with a 1 year replacement warranty from the seller?

I'm asking about the Bold 9700 and Torch 9800 in particular.
 
No - Vodacom offers 2 years.
 
Well, the price for the Bold II and the Torch is R3000 and R4100 respectively. The warranty from Vodacom is great, but the phone comes at a higher price. How much is a prepaid Bold 9700 nowadays?

It's a trade-off I guess, cheaper price vs warranty.
 
First of all, I have imported 7 Blackberry Torches.

I bought them from a reputable US company on eBay. I paid less than R4000 out of the box. They are, however, marked with AT&T but are unlocked.

Since we started using the 7 phones, we never had even the least bit of problems. Everything is working perfectly on them! If I read about the South African batches sold here, I would never ever consider buying a local phone.

It is clear that South African BB phones, especially the Torch is totally up to Sh** when comparing it to US stock!
 
bought my N1 from Google (using a user on here to bring it into the country).

From my experience, if there is some kind of warranty (especially from the actual manufacturer), then why not?

I've had more blackberry's than I can count, originating from here and abroad and they've all broken at one point or another. Two year warranties are well worth the extra coin.

Mind me asking if you're shipment got stopped at customs?
 
My 8520 had trackpad problems after just under a year. I took it to vodacare and they replaced it with a refurbished unit. No scratches or problems, all cos it was still under (vodacom) warranty.
1). What price would you pay for that convenience ?
2.) How much would it cost to replace the trackpad.
Answer the 2 questions and you have made your decision.
 
Jprestonnaidoo, all the phones got stopped at customs. None of them took longer than a few hours though.
 
Yes. I had to pay import taxes to the delivery company before they delivered the phones.

It was around R600. The total cost was about R4500. Still much better than here - quality wise the US handsets are also much better.

I bought the first phone in August, just when they were released. The first one I paid R4500 just for the phone.

I've never seen a tangible difference between the ones we get here (UK Vodafone) and the one's I've got from the US (T-Mobile).
 
These ppl at customs are such Dumb ****s. I imported 3 HTC desires and one Blackberry Bold 9700. They classified the HTC's as electronics (Computers which do not incur import duties) and the Blackberry as a mobile phone (Which they charge customs duties on).

Well I guess they sort of right. The HTCs are then times more advanced than the BBs lol

I got the BB :( My brothers got the HTC's
