I have an audigy 1... Is it worth upgrading or would it be a waste?
Dunno, I have the sound blaster live wanna get the Audigy 4, will either of these upgrades make a seriously noticeable difference.

Yeah it well. Someone who had an Audigy2 upgraded to an X-FI and they said they could "feel" the difference in sound.
If you're interested I can get good prices for these soundcards.

Well I upgraded from the Original Sound Blaster Live to an Audigy 2 ZS and I can tell you there is a bit of a difference but nothing extreme.
The reviews I read all say if you have an Audigy 1/2/ZS not worth upgrading to X-fi if you have anything older then by all means go for it.

So whats a "good" price. Rectron are selling it for R2000.
But if it's not worth it... Anyone that has the card got something to say?

Rather go for X-Fi about the same price and its one generation up.

Well if you buy a new card now then I agree, go X-Fi for sure. If you have an Audigy like me then I would say it wont be worth it.

Depends what version of the "X-fi" you want Scooby_Doo. There are currently 4 versions which range from $130-$400.
The general consensus is that if you have an Audigy 2/ZS/Platinum don't upgrade but if you have anything less, then it's a good buy.
I'd say my friend is an exception rather than the rule [with regards to noticing a substanial diff. between Audigy 2 and X-Fi]

i was looking at the fatal!ty one. I also only have 5.1 speakers so i pro should get 7.1 to take advantage of the x-fi, if i get it, too?

Hmmm. That R2k price is actually really good from Rectron. Not worth importing it.
Not sure about the 5.1/7.1 speaker Q but I'd imagine it won't make *that* much difference - in fact if you have the money, a Logitech Z-5500 would be the best sound system...and it's 5.1

The max that makes sense is 6.1 If you already have 5.1 what speakers are they? I would not go to 7.1 because of the amount of speakers you have to find space for. 5.1 is fine. My card also supports 7.1 DVD's only support up to 6.1 when using Dolby Digital ES/EX or DTS ES/EX (Cant remember which one is ES or EX)

I read that it needs a power connector for producing sound :).
It is just more useless nerd porn.

Some creative 5.1 speakers. They're not digital speakers... Those go for like R2000-4000. Rectron Creative gigaworks s750 THX 7.1 digital cost R3595. But creative inspire T7900 7.1 cost R950. I donno sound cards and speakers.

I have a pair of normal Creative Inspire 5200's. They are just fine. I might upgrade to some digital speakers later on but I really dont know if it is worth it. Something like the Megaworks 5.1 would be great but still overkill in my opinion.
My ideal system would be 6.1 Megaworks with X-Fi Fatal1ty. If I really wanted the Super System I would just hookup my PC to the home theater.
To be realistic though I would keep the Audigy and those speakers and maybe save up for some Megaworks and teh X-Fi. Maybe first go for a demo of the Sound card and speakers. NEVER JUST BUY AUDIO EQUIPMENT WITHOUT HEARING IT FIRST Mke sure it really does give a big difference to YOU

A bit old but some pointer
Easy DD EX is what it says EX, old gone, bad. DTS ES is the better new proper standard IMHO
or another way the DD EX is ex an (S) but DT(S) = E(S)
How is the HTS titles going. I aquired a lot of DD EX, DD THX and DTS ES 6.1 channel DVD titles lately. A lot of work searching tho! The sound makes all the difference. A new dimension watching horrors just ask my family, they will vouch for it!

Aren't there any other decent sound card manufacturers out there besides Creative?
I recall companies like M-Audio, Roland, Turtle Beach, Steinberg etc?

I should have known when the guy asked if it is worth getting a Creative X-Fi.
Sadly it took me until someone suggested upgrading from the Sound Blaster Live to realize something is seriously amiss here.
