Need i say more?

real interesting how the original thread (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/sh...d.php?t=187449 ) has been deleted....

I read the entire thing about 2 hours ago, and nothing was said about a legal issue.... just some mumble about people complaining about lag and dc's so S2 rather take them all offline than "players having a negative experience" (or something like that)

so now its a legal issue?? I smell BS

.

Lol. I'm now so glad I didn't buy the game. It was a lot of fun and I kicked ass at it, but seriously, S2 can't patch for !^%@! Every new update would break the game!

**** im cheesed, I'm currently banned on the forums so i cant voice my opinion on what cheating asswipes S2 really are. Basically saying you've played enough hon to warrant your $30. **** that ****, some basement dweller in yankyland has played way more than me and continues to play where as we must now suffer. I will hack that **** and ask Gany to host it on Twilight.

The worst is how S2 make iGames look like the vark in die verhaal.

**** S2!!!

PiXeL_NiNja, I was trolling, dissing the aussies and nzers, then the NZ mod lock me up. also posted some funny pics etc(gays and their appliances) ban was like 8months. ends this month 27ish lol.

you seen any private servers around?

Also dont let that thread dip off of the first page, cuz the public must know that S2 are just dropping us because they have gotten enough $30 from us and the sales were prob dying down so they canned the whole thing.

Also this is prob a blessing in disguise as this will give me a chance to get to grips with Dota's updates, in preparation for Dota 2.0

AFTER READING THIS S2 CAN EAT ***** (long read but worth it)

official S2 games statement

We have had a severe security issue with the provider and are currently taking proper legal action and there is nothing we can do about this issue at this time. We are sorry for the inconvenience and iGame is soley to blame here.

official Igame statement

The iGame HoN servers have been shut down due to the breakdown of recent talks between iGame and S2 Games.

S2 had raised concerns about not being granted access to the South African Boxes hosted by iGame, which form part of normal network security procedure internally and was the basis of the original agreement between S2 games and iGame. Although iGame had responded to an earlier request from S2 Games to attempt to resolve this issue by stating that the situation would be considered and evaluated on merit of the request, S2 has chosen not to proceed with these talks and has forced a server shutdown.

This situation was intensified by the recent ISP landscape changes locally, peering links and routing being affected caused users to time out and experience increased latency during peak times.

These issues were raised by gamers directly to S2 Games and although iGame did respond by attempting to relieve the situation during peak times the situation is largely out of iGame’s control due to ISP’s actively not peering with certain other ISP’s, S2 however has to date not responded to the issue of the VoIP on one instance of the S2 Server Manager not working, despite numerous attempts to contact S2 Technical Staff.

During this period of troubleshooting , S2 games had found an error in the configs that they had issued to iGame for the other two servers, which made a difference in Upload and logging speeds.

S2 Recently shut down the IS and DoGaming servers and awarded iGame the exclusive rights to host the title in the South African Territory while the exact same access criteria was in place now being cited as a security risk by S2 Games. This access criteria has been part of the normal operations procedure for HoN since the Beta Phase.

iGame has provided the service as a free one to S2 Games, providing Networking, Hardware, Bandwidth and full support and has had the same policy since the Beta, not allowing Outside RDP access onto hardware due to the security threat it poses to the entire network connected to the S2 Hosting Boxes.

We are disappointed in the way in which S2 Games have handled the situation, choosing not to help solve problems and instead shifting the blame to iGame for something that both parties had agreed to when initiating the first Beta servers in SA.

We are saddened by the fact that the issue escalated to this point, we have tried to speak to S2 games but they have been non receptive to our requests for support in the issues that have been reported to us by the community.

We unfortunately cannot resolve issues with software that is not our own without the help of the developers themselves. We have supported the local community to the best of our ability since hosting the Beta, we therefore apologize for this breakdown in service, as although the way in which it was handled by S2 games leaves much to be desired and could have been resolved had discussions not broken down, iGame has always supported the local community and will continue to do so, albeit with titles other than HoN”

iGame wishes the HoN community the best and trust that S2 Games will address the lack of servers with expedience.

A personal note

I'll respond here as I feel I owe you guys a more direct explanation
The simple fact of the matter is, before the Beta Launched we had prepared a service level agreement between ourselves and S2 Games, stating what they were allowed to do when they were granted access to the hardware on our network.
They declined to Sign this agreement and hosting went forward on the terms that we would administer and support the servers and would not grant them RDP access on the Windows boxes running the title.

I was mailed a week ago andgiven an ultimatum that if we did not give them access as soon as possible, they would block access to the game servers, effectively shutting them down.
We were , on our side in the process of evaluating the risk associated with this when S2 Games blocked master server access for the servers.Thereby indicating that talks had ceased.
I logged in and shut down the non responsive server managers for the HoN title.

The reason why we cannot, without some sort of usage policy for an external party allow access onto hardware is because, shoudl we allow them access onto the box, they have access to dual gigabit fibre links and unlimited bandwidth diectly through our DSL peering links. They could host and maintain any illegal services on our boxes, inside our own network and we would be the ones that would be prosecuted for any criminal activity, we would be held liable.
Please note I'm not by any means saying that that is what anyone would do, but this has to be taken into consideration and needs to be provisioned for.

So once again, I apologize to all of you that do play HoN and that helped us make the game the huge success it has been to date locally.I trust that S2 will reach a suitable solution for all of you.

On a personal note though, I myself feel prety gutted by this, I spend 3 days striaght, no sleep, working non stop to get the first Beta server up and running locally.Since then I've spent countless hours monitoring, suggesting fixes and attempting to resolve issues.
With limited help from the developers and a communtiy which at times became frustrated with us because we could not resolve issues without logging tickets to S2 for support I really did try my best to maintain the system and servers on it.

So out of curiosity what is the agreement between S2 and all the -other- hosted servers around the world? Surely if most of them feel giving S2 RDP access is such a security concern they would not allow it either? How are the other servers getting away with it then? I mean if you can prove that the S2 requirement is not being applied anywhere else, then that alone should be a case for iGame ?

...but for some reason i don't think the full story is being told here.

As IGame stated they were reviewing thier policy when they were shut out. I think S2 wanted to stop support for SA.

Anyhow cheers S2, Last game I buy from you , yay uncapped ftw.

You raise some really good points. Why do other service providers around the world seem to have no problem hosting a S2 Games server? "I smell something fishy, and I'm not talking about the contents of Baldrick's apple crumble"
