Get Ready to wait a full year for the next fix of windows xp. according to these guys, XP Service pack 3 will be available after the release of Windows Vista. it is said to fix log in problems and some networking problems. some expert is also saying that it might have IE 7 and change outlook express to Micosoft mail.
 
I think I'll wait another 6 months after its release to see what bugs it may have caused before I install it.
 
They will also slip in a few fundemental OS upgrades that was originally Vista only which should extend the lifespan of XP.

All i know is, Vista Beta 1 is a big NO NO atm. Cant wait for the final release tho...thas $h1t is hot!
 
yea whats wrong with windows xp

why are ppl moaning about it

Nobody will want vista after its release because of the High demand in hardware and no stable drivers will be around for some time. I used to struggle to get xp drivers. I dont know why windows does not release the Service pack When its ready cause by the time they release it.... it will be time for another security fix on the current xp version. I just dont know why they make us wait.

Well if you make such an ill-informed and clueless statement on this forum then you better back it up with some facts :).
 
i liked service pack 2. sorted out a lot of bugs. i just simply disabled all the "features" and my system has bin running for more than 8 months without a reinstall. sp2 for the win! just ignore MS' attempts to lure you in a specific direction...

sorry boyt dat - i have issues with some things...

there are a few irritations that come from SP2...like the issue with "limited or no connectivity", it automatically blocking programs, files, java progs...the list goes on!!

i no it was bad all the way - it did help here and there! ie: with drives greater than 132Gb etc....

i admit i dont no everything bout SP2 , but it just was abit irritatin here and there.

i apologise tibby.dude if i offended u.
 
I remember similar postings on the internet when 2000 ( and then XP ) were released ...
With 2000 is was people saying how much better 98 was etc etc
With XP people just bitched in general ...
 
i think windows xp is one of the few of m$'s achievements. certainly light years ahead of windows 98 which is officially 7 years old now.

the only thing that bugged me in the beggneing with windows xp was finding drivers... but that all sorted out...

also playing golden oldies can prove to be difficult, but nothing a dual boot can not fix :)

Huh? What are you talking about?
SP2 does no such thing.

"Limited or no connectivity" means that your DHCP configured connection can't get an IP address. Ie, you have physical connection, but there ain't no IP configured, so you got no logical connection.

Block programs? Like what? Like how? Unless you're using a) a crappy firewall, b) a crappy anti-virus and c) that internet explorer sh*te.

That's about the only thing I can think of that would "block" programs.
XP does NOT do that - as much as I dislike it, I still use it - why do you think there is such an issue with worms etc? Cuz XP allows things to run, and doesn't block anything outgoing.

"Limited or no connectivity" is a "bug" in SP2

It affects mostly PPPOE connections.

Technically its not a bug but still rather annoying!

I have to say the only issues I have ever had with WinXP were with the early Beta (I like to test out alll the releases for fun) and with deploying SP2 over an entire organisation without testing (which I advised against in the first place).

SP2 fixed a whole heap of problems and only really introduced one or two others.

I'm going to install the newest Vista beta tonight and see what it's like (32bit)
