Last weekend I decided to get myself counterstrike source and today I had look for it... Well I started at 1... at 4 I gave up.

What I noticed on my expedition through Cape Town:

- there are more sex shops than computer stores
- there are more sex shops than stores which sell computer games
- counterstrike is widly unknown in this country
- such are the places which sell computergames
- the whole of Cape Town Central has 2 computer stores and 6 stores which sell computer games
- out of those 6 shops 4 have never heard of counterstrike
- the other 2 had it a few weeks ago but don't know when or even if they are getting it again
- all of those shops had both larry and playboy-the mansion

I'll continue when I get to Canal Walk and maybe even Tiger Valley...


This is just sad... And then the big companies are wondering why people download games illegaly.
 
Trying giving Budget Technologies up here in Gauties a call - sorry don't have their number. They may have it. They also have Playboy Mansion and Larry ;o). Funnily enough they have Larry on the PS2 in the uncut version.

They do mail order and have a web site but trying to remember that stuff is well beyond me at the moment.
 
how can that be that you have to order a game like counterstrike source?!?!?
 
Soz - didn't see/pay attention you were looking for Source. I thought you'd get that as a free download over steam if you had CS.
 
I have never played CounterStrike and only heard about it once or twice, and I am in the IT industry. Why on earth would it be different at a computer store, where the people are probably just regular sales clerks?

That being said, places like Computer Mania are happy to order pretty much any product you can think of for you
 
If you go to the SAIX gaming forums, I think you will see that its a lot more popular than you think. I really cant understand how any computer shop would not know what it is all about?

EDIT And then Jstrike explained it while I was typing.. LOL while I also dont play CS, I really would think that somebody selling games should know their products. I sure as hell wont trust a car sales man who cant tell me about my car i'm buying?

Fair enough. I am not one of those computer gaming people, so I wouldn't really know how popular counterstrike is.
 
Maybe the people who you asked were n00bs, and didnt know that CS comes with Half Life 2..?

Anyway at least you know Cape Town a bit better now hehehe

after asking for counterstrike (in case they didn't know what it is) I also asked for HL2

A friend and I bought CSS from Computer Mania in Canal Walk. Give them a call. Their number should be listed on the Canal Walk site.

sure, there are 2 in bree street, i think 1 in long street, the other's are in all the other streets. otherwise in green/sea point main street are 3 or 4 more.
 
Ok now thats scary! I drive past one every day on my way to work.. and I cant tell you what street its on! How many did you go into asking for the "CS Source" :D
 
UPDATE!!! Canal Walk also didn't have it...

For everyone also not being able to find CSS in the shops:

There is a small shop/internet cafe in blouberg next to the beach (where the big hotel and kfc are) which have plenty HL2/CSS packages for 289. So CSS here I come!!!
 
How much is Counter Strike Source by itself? I thought it was a freebie with HL2? Ps. I assume you have broadband, its the only way to manage with the STEAM server without breaking down and crying at the slow download times.
 
you don't get it here yet by itself. it's 280 with hl2. CSS by itself is 20€ in europe.
