On Nov 1 Telkom is going to implement one of the most crippling changes to SA broadband ever seen. These changes are going to dramatically impact many consumers and businesses.

And yet, look at the response by consumers and businesses? Nothing meaningfull .... aside from a couple of whines. Bit like a mosquito buzzing you as you fall asleep.

Want to know why we are up broadband s**t creek without a paddle? Look in the mirror .... our own apathy is strangling us.

Not entirely true...lots has been done and will continue to be done. Many threads on the forum about how to help etc.

Myadsl is at the fore front of the resistance, no doubt about that, BUT we dont seem to have a critical mass of support to really start to influence events rather than just observe them. By support I mean where is the business, ISPA, MYADSL, school, university, trade union, political party coalition needed to grab the government's attension on this issue?

Not that it's Myadsl's sole responsibility to bring about such a coalition but the fact that such a coalition doesn't spontaneously arise in the face of Telkom's brutal abuse of their monopoly position is telling in my opinion ...
 
South Africans are much more apathetic than Americans. What is being done through MyADSL is pretty much the most that will happen.

As for yourself, are you an active member of antitrust, or are you just making noise whilst complaing yourself

Have you actually thought about who needs to be a part of the coalition to force change instead of banging the drum of YAGTGASR*

There seems to be a lack of strategic planning as to how to force real change here. Understandable as we arn't a coherent group. Nevertheless a strategy seems sorely needed ...

Yet another group that goes around shouting "Rabble Rabble"?
 
Same as the petrol price. in Europe they protest to bring down the price of fuel, here, we bend over, apply lube, and take it like men. Pretty lame if u ask me.
 
Well, I am apathetic. The most effort you will me make is sending an email. But then again, I dont really complain here that much. (I find MyADSL a usefull source for information) But if you are so rilled up, why dont you join up with like minded people who are willing to put themselves out and make a difference?
 
Scooby_Doo : Exactly. Everyone likes to point fingers when the reality is that it is often our fault.
 
market forces have already found a solution for 1 Nov and Telkom is going to be losing a lot of adsl accounts as users move over to the new IS and UUnet accounts. Its where we should have been all along, but could not be because its only relatively recently been possible for other ISPs to connect to the ADSL ATM cloud.

That fact, combined with Governments stated intention to ban hard caps means that even if Nov 1 comes about, I think my March Telkom will cave in and also have a 30gig local hard cap on 3 gig accounts.
 
I have started spamming ICASA with emails of concern and complaint about the Nov 1 fiasco..... no replies so far.
