AC/DC fans will be delighted to hear that the band’s new album fled the coop and landed itself on a torrent server near you! AC/DC management apparently isn’t that happy about the leak and speculation is rife that they are now flooding the web with fake songs and are frustrating web users who attempt to download these files with slow leeches and heavy waiting periods. It shouldn’t be something major to overcome for any torrent savvy user but there are other questions popping into my head.
How convenient for the album to leak two weeks before the shelf release of the new Black Ice album, not so? It is haunting sites like Digg and Google news and here I am blogging about it right this very minute. What better marketing can you get? I like AC/DC although I will never go as far as to call myself a fan because I cannot name three of their album titles to be honest. I know their hits though and have bobbed to Thunderstruck on more than twenty occasions, but they have a massive following of that you can be sure.
It would be interesting to see their record sales when it does officially release to shops around the world. I have a sneaky suspicion it will do well. If it does it may well be because of the leak. Another interesting aspect to the whole story (remember this is not the first band this has happened to) has to do with the whole frustration issue. If Sony is indeed trying to frustrate users with fake files and slow downloads the questions begs if this is wise? What fan in their right mind will let a new leaked album lie on a torrent server unlistened? Why sour this experience for fans? It would be stupid.
That is like asking somebody in the era of tapes not to listen to a bootleg a friend brought home of a jam session held by the Rolling Stones at a friend’s house or something to that effect. No hard core AC/DC fan will let this chance go by! It is historic! Why ruin it for the fans? If they didn’t leak it, the best they can do is to simply release the album as soon as possible to retail outlets. Nothing more, nothing less.
