Windows Vista service pack 2 is now freely available to Vista users online.
This comes after it was announced late last year that the update was entering the final stage of Beta testing. This was concluded on the 28 April, 2009.
The 348.3 MB file is available for download directly from Microsoft’s website or through the Vista system via Microsoft Windows Update within a few weeks.
It will add support for VIA Technologies Nano 64 bit CPU , upgrade support for Bluetooth 2.1, enable users to write Blu Ray disks directly from the Vista OS, update the right hand RSS feed bar in terms of responsiveness and will improve performance for WiFi connections after resuming from sleep mode.
Vista service pack 2 is also due to boost power management and efficiency by 10%, will improve Windows Media Centre with regards to producing television content and has addressed over 700 previous Vista bugs and security updates.
Any Vista user can download the update although service pack 1, which became available in April 2008, is required beforehand.
The Vista platform has been dogged with controversy since its release in 2007. Although service pack 1 went some way to fix major problems with reliability and performance, the technology community still had much to say regarding its high system requirements and excessive authorisation prompts for User Account Control.
Despite this it is possible that the technology fraternity may feel positive about Vista service pack 2 and the updates that it will bring.
Windows 7, Microsoft’s follow up to the Vista OS, has not yet received an official launch date although the Beta version became available in February 2009.
