Steve Jobs received a measly 1 dollar bonus despite the fact that some Apple executives took home cash bonuses that were double their salaries.
According to Reuters the COO Timothy Cook and the CFO Peter Oppenheimer have salaries of around 700 000 and 600 000 US dollars which were unchanged from last year.
“In fiscal year 2007, Mr. Jobs’s entire compensation consisted of his $1 annual salary,” Apple said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. “Because Mr. Jobs’s continued leadership is critical to the company, the Compensation Committee is considering additional compensation arrangements for him,” the maker of the iPod said in a Reuters report.
The salaries for executives at Apple were not increased which is understandable given the uncertain economic state of the US.
But Jobs has retained his 1 dollar a year base salary since 1997. Whilst is sounds very impressive to have a CE on 1 dollar a year we must not discount the fact that Jobs currently owns 5.5 million shares of Apple common stock, so he is far from penniless.
