Hey team

As per the heading, I got an iPhone 3G (8gb) which I did a full reset on from the settings menu and it froze on the restore mode.

Since it's an AT&T phone¹ it's network locked, so when I updated to OS 4.1 I locked my MTN sim out. Fortunately I still have the original AT&T sim to access the phone settings etc.

Now I've tried the following in order to unlock/jailbreak it:

Software:
  • Downloaded iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw (when restored it works as usual with network locking)
  • Downloaded Sn0wbreeze V2.0.2 and 2.1 and made ipsw files from the original 4.1 OS.
  • Downloaded iREB 4.1 to unlock it.
  • iTunes v.10
  • Limera1n.exe

Running Limera1n, it goes to the DFU and freezes - requiring me to restore the original 4.1 OS from scratch.

Running Sn0wbreeze 2 in connection with iREB, it DFU's the phone and creates a snowbreeze.ipsw file. I then load this OS file via iTunes and after it's done the upload and reboot, it freezes and won't respond.

All I can think of is that the 5.14.02 baseband is the problem, but I don't see any way around it. Downgrading to OS 3.1.2 has been mentioned where it then changes the baseband too, but I'm a little hesitant to do that.

Any/all comments and ideas would be highly appreciated.

¹ I'm very anal about purchasing stolen goods and made sure the original owner who bought the AT&T contract was legit.
