PS3 users (except those incorporated in the initial trial) will be happy to know that the “Home” virtual world which will operate similarly to the well known “Second Life” virtual realm goes into operation today. Still technically in Beta phase this opening will probably usher in one of the biggest virtual living spaces on the web today.

The free download will be available for download via the console allowing users access to the services. Communication in the game will happen via virtual keyboard, USB or Bluetooth Keyboard or speaking into a wired or wireless headset and e-motions, which are movements such as waves or dancing. These e-motions are based on emoticons. For user convenience there is also a library of messages to choose from via the controller or keyboard.

The current version is 1.03

The American web space for Home can be found at this address:

Looking at videos of the game and its environment, I would say that this virtual life environment will be happily enjoyed by millions!

There have been a couple of delays in the release of the game since it was first announced in 2007 but it seems like today is the day that will make PS3 owners around the globe very happy. Not sure what the enjoyment factor for PS3 owners in South Africa will be like and I am eagerly awaiting any feedback from PS3 owners locally.

Be prepared to be amazed with the detail of the game. I must be honest it is amazing!
