With millions of people playing the world’s most popular MMORPG World of Warcraft (WoW) there are literarily thousands of plugins out there that can help you improve your online game play and WoW interface.
While the choice of plugins is completely subjective, my top 6 generic plugins that I use are listed below. Almost all of these plugins can be downloaded and updated through the Curse Plugin manager.
1) LoadIT
This is probably one of the most useful plugins as in the past when loading and unloading plugins you normally had to logout and then log back into World of Warcraft.
For many players this can be a rather painful exercise. LoadIT allows you to enable and disable plugins on the fly without the need login and logout of WoW.
LoadIT also allows you to setup profiles for different situations. Quickly swop out your farming plugins for raiding plugins without the need to go through your extensive list of plugins.
2) Auctioneer
Most people who play WoW will be familiar with this group of plugins. It allows you to quickly judge a good price for items you list in the Auction House.
3) Gatherer
Gold makes the economy of WoW spin around and most people will have at least one gathering profession.
Miners and Herbalists will benefit the most from this plugin. It keeps a record of where the gatherer nodes are and comes with nifty features like the HUD to help you easily plan your farming session.
I would highly recommend that you use Gatherer with GathererDB WoWHead. GathererDB WoWHead is basically a database of all known nodes and treasures.
4) Questhelper
For those of you who don’t know every NPC on a first name basis and every quest verbatim, this is a brilliant plugin to help you quest your character through to level 80. It’s a bit of a resource hog but helps you get through the questing grind as quickly as possible
5) Lightheaded
When questing you will often find yourself ALT+TABing out of your WoW client to visit Thottbot or WoWHead to help you find a solution for a quest that you are having a lot of difficulty with.
Lightheaded brings WoWHead into your quest log interface so there is no more need to ALT+TAB out of WoW anymore. Lightheaded works very well with a small plugin known as TomTom.
6) Deadly Boss Mods
For anyone who does raiding in WoW this plugin is a necessity. It helps keep track of boss phases and abilities and keeps you updated on what your boss is doing. I can’t imagine raiding without Deadly Boss Mod. More dots! More dots! Many whelps!
