Xbox fans around the globe jumped for joy at the thought of a 250GB hard drive in the offing when the company recently announced the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 themed limited edition Xbox Elite with a 250GB hard drive. Storage hungry players saw a separately sold 250GB drive coming to market but Microsoft dashed any dreams of a separately sold HDD in a clarification late yesterday.
“This hard drive is not being sold separately,” said Xbox Live programming director Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb. I doubt South Africans will miss the size though because unlike our overseas counterparts we will have to pay unbelievable amounts of money to download the free content available for storage on a drive that size. It would be cheaper to mail the drive to a friend overseas to fill up and have him mail it back. Our Internet provisioning industry is just not mature enough yet due to sloppy legislation on behalf of government that inhibits competition but things are turning around, slowly but surely.
Nelson also confirmed that the Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 is available for pre-order at the moment at U.S. retailers, and in other regions later this week. The package includes the custom designed console, 250 GB hard drive, two wireless controllers and a standard edition of Modern Warfare 2 for US $399.99.
