Sony has changed its tune regarding Blue-ray pornography by supporting adult filmmakers in their high-definition porn quest.

According to media reports, Sony has improved its technical support for Blue-ray to the porn industry in Japan, which is seen as an important step in the high-definition standards war.

PCWorld reported that HD DVD has already won over the U.S. adult film industry through its lower costs and ease-of-use. “People in the industry say they’ve received plenty of help from backers of the format, including Microsoft Corp. and Toshiba Corp,” PCWorld says.

Up to now Sony did not support Blue-ray for pornographic purposes, and with Japanese companies restrained by issues regarding the printing of pornographic material on disc, Blue-ray porn did not perform well.

But new developments, including more support from Sony and a Taiwanese company obtaining Blue-ray duplication equipment, things are changing.

Mass production of Blue-ray based porn in Taiwan is scheduled to start in August and the product will then be imported to Japan.
