If you can stay with me until the end of this post, you’ll want what I’m selling. Forget the old ‘Second Life’ or ‘World of Warcraft’ – there’s better technology. If someone will only put it together for me. This is on the top of my wish list for Christmas, Santa, and I’m calling it Semalife.
Combine three ultra cool technologies, blend, and deliver by December 2007.
Semacode
With Semacode‘s software you create a visual tag for an object. The tag is a 2D barcode which contains a URL. Snap the barcode with your cameraphone, and the software converts it to a link which is opened in your browser. See this BBC article on how it incorporates with Wikipedia.

It’s an old idea, but it seems like somone has finally made it cool. The tagline is ‘My window, my world‘ – think of it as a portable big screen. Plug these small TV-sunglasses into your iPod, and you have your own portable big-screen. I’m sure you feel cooler than you look.
D’fusion from Total Immersion
This is the final, ubercool part of the puzzle. Known as ‘augmented reality’ this allows you to insert interactive 3D objects with a live video feed. In high definition (HD). Imagine watching yourself play with a light saber in realtime, or wacking your friend with a looney tunes hammer. See what I mean:

wearable TV glasses (overlaid with the real world)
Interactive 3D objects in a live video
See tagged items as 3D objects, or see extensive information on objects. By linking physical objects with knowledge about the object, we can create an information rich environment out of the real world.
Imagine standing in a shop and comparing all the prices of an item on the web – by looking at it. Proud of your Warcraft prowess? Wear it like a badge – it’s updated in real time. Travelling overseas? See the exchange rate on the notes you’re paying with, or read the signposts in Afrikaans. The possibilites are only limited by the size of the Web…
Overlay the internet on the real world. Wear your avatar. See my tweets. Update your shoes. Check her hitpoints. See the speedlimit. Get te best deal. Be the boss. Colour your world. See his profile. Calculate the bill. Know the cheese expiry date. Display your business card. Watch a player’s stats. Recognise buildings. Know everything. Put your life into context. Put everything into context. See the web.
Every physical item doesn’t need an IP address anymore, it only needs a tag. And some goggles and software.
Throw in universal wimax and your Wiimote – the Jedi will envy us. And I can be one in Semalife.
