South African English spell checker issue in OpenOffice

I am not sure why this hasn’t been picked up yet or if I am the only person on the face of the planet with this haunting problem but even on different computers the spell checker will insist on putting a space between a word and the last letter in the word when running the spell checker in OpenOffice. It doesn’t happen to all the words but it happens enough to be an irritation of note, that if you do not have the time to play around with OpenOffice could make you drop the suite as a solution altogether. A word like “literally” would be tagged as wrongly spelled with a corrective guide indicating “literall y” as the correct spelling. You can see how that can be a huge pain, right?

This happens to me specifically using Ubuntu and I have found a way around it. I change all my language settings for OpenOffice to UK English and the problem goes away. No more disembowelled words thank you very much. I am very keen to know if other people also spotted this problem and have had to resort to being a regional traitor in order to get things working.

I noticed that there is now a dedicated South African Time Zone in Ubuntu voiding the city picking that always had only Johannesburg as a city option, which in my view is technically incorrect because Pretoria is our capital city. The Pretoria / Tshwane political hot potato is also thrown out the window with a South African Time zone option. I am not sure what the reason was, but a lot of issues were resolved in doing this.
