Naledi Pandor launches SA National Space Agency

Pretty soon we'll see the headline:

The South African government: We're not just the most incompetent bunch on Earth anymore!

After what seems like a decade after legislative talks have begun.

Sooner or later all countries will require to have their own space program.

I know this is a serious thread so I'll apologise in advance... sorry.

Please can we volunteer Juli-Ass Mal-Enema as the first South African astronaut on a South African built space craft?

If there's a petition going round, I'll be happy to sign it, provided that it is a no-return voyage! ;)

Seriously though :D, South Africans seem to be getting the hang of this space thing. Not sure who the first major name South African was to have anything to do with space, travel or exploration, but I do recall Mark Shuttleworth's flight with the Russian trip. And this morning David O' Sullivan was talking about others, South African or SA born, going into space. Then there's SKA too. I personally like what I am hearing. :)

I've never seen a chimp with a breitling before :D

Apologies to all the chimps for the insult.

Note the "South African built" part...

You joke but South Africa has an advanced aerospace and defense industry and the products manufactured here are 1st class (they are QA tested from every angle).

As part of the strategy a suite of satellite-borne and ground-based platforms would be developed for earth observation, navigation and positioning, communications and space science and exploration.

That does not make a whole lot of sense *sigh* Pandor has inherited Manto's drinks cabinet. If they want to observe planet Earth from the ground, just watch the international news channels (it will be a whole lot cheaper than whatever they are thinking of doing).

Are we also going up to 'find out what the Americans are doing up there?'

Ooh, give me opportunity to design spacecraft. I'll design it with new eternal engine, which is normal engine that has no "OFF" button. :D

Aaah, another black hole for my tax rand...
And for the extremists, that's not a racially loaded statement believe it or not.

This sounds all nice and stuff but really now, can we at least get ONE of the basics right first?
