how do i send the sms for 2c/sms

I think u are talking about using something similar to instant messaging... Yes u can do that and yes it works out to about 2c/sms but u need a server to host the IM software and u need to log in like msn messenger or a similar program... i have no idea if this site offers such a service...
 
all my mates with the d500 have mxit, on your phone goto www.mxit.co.za/wap mayber they havnt updated their site. I use a program called agile messenger which i downloaded, its made for symbian OS tho, so series 60 phones, its signs into your msn account, u are able to send photos, voice and chat, it also is also very light on the gprs usage!

c00 thanks... but don't u need a server address and stuff... i got a builtin IM program on my 6680 but it needs a server, username password ect...

they have got a beta version for d500, it doesnt work on mine though

yeh its been like this for years with gprs
 
interesting... so it seems you don't need to download an app like with mxit, you can simply use the phone's inbuilt im service, is that right?
and then logon with your yahoo, msn, etc username?

I don't know about logining in msn or yahoo etc, pro only the server that u enter... Perhaps u can enter in the server address of msn (or the one u use) into the server address box on ur built in IM... does anyone know what that address is...

i think you misunderstood, scooby_doo.

if you go the registration page at yamigo.com, you'll see you have the option to enter your yahoo, msn, aim or icq username and password. you don't log in with that, though, but with your yamigo username and password, and the server address you need to enter would be yamigo's server address
 
this is so cool, i've been looking for some IM software like this to take advantage of the cheap GPRS rates:D A while ago i was able to login to a web-mail account using GPRS and send sms's over email, but it was just so cumbersome, and it stopped working after a while...

Oh... ok, now i understand... thats much better than mxit... thanks have a rep point...lol, i dish these things out too much. lol.

We are busy with an infrastructure upgrade... this should help with some of the login problems and a new release is due this week... so more phones will be supported. There are also some new features like emoticons and timestamps in the new release. V 2.4. :)

SMS Over GPRS

You guys have given some great links for IM stuff for phones.

I think the actual thread was pointing at SMS over GPRS.
Unfortunately, our cell providers don't support it over here yet.

SMS over GPRS. Send an sms from your phone like an ordinary sms except you use GPRS. No going to websites or installing IM's or anything like that.
Works like normal SMS but much cheaper.

There was a thread somewhere about it.... Vodacom3G also answered it.
