Neotel for gaming .. .an oxymoron ?

Exactly as the title suggests. Is neotel for gaming not possible? Is Latency a problem ? Speeds etc . Assuming you have covergae of course ?

its possible to game with neotel, just not advisable as the last line connection (ie in your home) is wireless. which means packet loss, or just dropped altogether. for some games its fine, but if you playing any kind of fps its gonna mean you gonna get shot in the face way more often than you shooting other people in the face. that and neotel is currently aimed more at the business market. I suppose there are people that game with neotel, but you will find them in the minority

Neotel's CDMA (cellular) network has too high latencies for gaming >150ms; my previous average was 240ms with a high variation is download speeds (lots of dropped packets)

However their business Wimax network is perfect for gaming; 20 to 30ms latency, and almost no variation in speed with dropped packets. Basically it's the closest you'll get to a wired connection.

wireless for gaming = NO

3g is ok ,played wow with it fine, better then some adsl pings

The CDMA network is not suitable for low latency pinging. Oh Neotel when will we get fibre to the home? I don't want copper.. give me light!

When it comes to the wireless offerings there is always a bit of extra lag in my experience. I did WoW on vodacom 3g and it was painful... no, thats an understatement, it was like the dentist using an angle grinder on ultra slow mode. Not for the fainthearted.

So tell me something.. if you could buy a house in the middle of an industrial area that had fibre direct to the building ... low latency, big pipe, (i'm drooling just thinking about it), ... would you buy it?

The problem with wireless is not latency but packet loss. Latency is manageable but packet loss is the worst thing ever, shoot a clip off and half of it never even registered on the server.

3g also depends on the tower etc, i was on low pop tower so my wow ping was about 300ms with proxy, though it was mtn vodacom just dced as start the pulls
