It started with popcorn. What used to take 5 minutes in the microwave began to take 6, then 8 minutes and then one afternoon after waiting fo 10 minutes without even half of the popcorn popping we realised that the microwave had given up the ghost.
That same week my PC had died. I didn’t really pay much attention to this because, well, it’s a PC. Also, we have a few Macs so the PC really just stood in the corner covering the unsightly cables.
A few days later our butter had turned to butter sauce and our ice-cream was trying desperately not to turn to cream. Our fridge had died.
It was then that I started to wonder if all the rolling blackouts weren’t to blame?!!
Then it was my iPhone’s turn. Dead as a door nail. Then, while trying to play an advert to a client, my mouse suddenly stopped working. I mean give me a freakin’ break!!! Then, adding insult to injury, my external hard drive went on the fritz – and I nearly took the head off the guy who said ‘dont you do backups?’ Yes, punk, I put a couple hundred gigs of my backup hardrive onto DVDs every week. It’s called redundancy, which is Latin for ‘I dont have a life!’
Sorry, I digress.
Now some of these I can attribute to the age of the appliance, or that it was a PC and that is what they were made to do, but ALL these electrical appliances, ALL in a matter of days?
Maybe you’ve had the same experience and never really given it much thought, but one has to wonder if it was all a coincidence or if the electricity issues we have had this year have taken a toll on more than just our productivity.
