Onkyo HT-S5305 or Marantz NR1501 with Jamo Speakers

Hey guys,

Just a quick question if anybody has experience with these two systems?
Sounds Great in Centurion Mall has the Onkyo HT-S5305 on special atm for around R5700.
Dions Wired has the Marantz NR1501 with Jamo speakers set for R9999 atm.

I have a 360,PS3,Wii and HTPC to connect to the system. My TV is a little older Sony so it only has one HDMI input. The Onkyo has HDMI 1.4a, but don't see myself upgrading to a 3D TV (if it survives) anytime soon. I'm leaning toward the Marantz with the 7.1 output, but Onkyo has a HT-S6305 kit that supports 7.1 also. Not sure if Sounds Great has the HT-S6305 in stock or what the price is, but I'm going there after work today to check. Dions Wired also has a deal with a Marantz SR5004 and Jamo speakers for R12999, but that might be pushing the budget a little to far and has no sub. My budget is around R10k, but can be stretched a little more if I can get by the FM at home :D

Any help of advice would greatly be appreciated.
 
Wow - that SR5004 and the Jamo is a fairly good price.

I reckon if you buy either the slim Marantz/Onkyo and decent speakers - you'd come fairly close to that R13,000.00. The 5004 is also (nearly) double the power of the NR1501 ...
 
Go for the Onkyo.
The reciever may be only 5.1, but you don't really need a 7.1 system unless you have a large room.
HDMI 1.4a also does a few more things than just 3D.

Thanks. Room is not that big so the 5.1 should work then. Just wondered if the 7.1 would make any difference with the fancy new audio codex that Blu-Rays come with these days.
Any special features that I should know of with the 1.4a if it is just not for 3D?
