It’s a hungry world. I’m trying to co-ordinate all my on-line wanderings, and it’s not a walk in the park.
Almost everything I do online creates an rss feed. Obviously I’ve been Twittering for a while, and there’s Jaiku running on my Nokia. I use del.icio.us for bookmarking and there’s Feedburner to manage my blogs.
Some time ago I set up a Tumblelog to act as a lifestream where I can draw everything together. This then gets imported to my Facebook profile as notes.
The problem is that I’m using different platforms – Twitter, blogs, Flickr – to do similar jobs. But not exactly the same.
My wife and some friends follow my tweets on their phone, so it’s usefull if the blog posts are also fed to Twitter. How great would it be if Flickr is also plugged into my Twitter stream, and everything is pulled together into a blog. I can also feed my del.icio.us links into the blog.
But I’d also like my blog to feed my Twitter account, so every time I post it will be sent to my followers’ mobiles. And when I post to Flickr it should also come out as a tweet.
I’m sure you can see the flaw here: my rss feeds are as tangled as this post. Which, by the way, will end up on about two thirds of my online sites, give or take a third.
I had hoped that writing out the problem would clear my mind. The opposite is true, and I now need to lie down until the tweety birds go away.
This web beast is eating faster than I can feed it.
