The guys at Wired.com reported on a new mouse Apple could launch to market with new iMacs for this coming holiday season. They quote sources at AppleInsider, the well known source for all things Apple related as saying that the new mouse will feature some of the touch functionality found in other Apple products like the iPod Touch and the iPhone. The mouse will do away with the roller-ball featured on the current Mighty Mouse.
“Presumably an Apple multi-touch mouse would function similarly to the unibody MacBook track pads, which detect multi-touch gestures. On new MacBooks, tapping the track-pad with two fingers triggers a right-click function, for example; this rumoured multitouch mouse might copy this behaviour. Also, for a mouse, we would expect a multi-touch gesture to replace scrolling in different directions, and perhaps there will be special gestures that trigger Exposé commands as well.”
Another interesting development that unfolded in the Netherlands recently was the accidental release of ads by Google sporting the pricing and features of a new line of iMacs and MacBooks that apparently are faster, smaller and cheaper than prior generations. With a rough shot seven month development cycle on the iMac alone, Apple fans could be in for a treat this coming holidays. I am still on the look out for the rumoured multi-touch netbook or tablet like solution from Apple, but so far nothing has transpired.
I guess the only thing we can do for now is wait and see how true those accidental ads really were, but the pricing for the Netherlands at least looks promising if they can be believed.
