Wii We bought a Nintendo Wii over the Christmas period, much to the delight of the children (including myself, of course). Nuff said.

Before I continue, let me first tell you a little-known fact about myself: I tend to over-research everything. When I decided to upgrade my phone, I spent 3 months searching for the right phone before deciding. Naturally, with the Wii I did the same. As a result I had already been to several many sites by the time the console arrived in our home.

One of the sites I had frequented for a while (more for the laugh) was WiiHaveAProblem. The site has videos/stories of Wii owners that had hurt themselves/their beloved other/their appliances while playing the Wii. I had had a good laugh at many of these, all the while swearing to myself that I would never do the same thing.

Well, it happened. I was playing tennis against my 5 year old daughter the other day when I struck out at a ball – and connected with the open door behind me. The door is fine – I struck it firmly on the spine, so no worries there – but my wiimote took some damage; a crack through the IR window at the front. Luckily no performance hit. Ironically, my daughter was playing with the jacketed wiimote, “in case you hit anything”. Don’t laugh; she’s already hit the TV (32″ LCD), and let go of the wiimote in full swing too.

Moral of the story: people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones – or wiimotes.

UPDATE: Perhaps I should have mentioned that none of these accidents while the wrist straps were in use…
