Pirates find their gold
I see the guys from The Pirate Bay finally made their millions with a nice settlement of sale to a software company intending to utilise the brand! At the end of their one year jail term they will each have just over one million Dollars in the bank. Not too bad for a cyber-piracy stint and assuming the Swedish jails are not too cruel; they should be smiling after their escapades. It sure was an adventure for them and I don’t think when all is said and done that they will be looking back in dismay. They got fame, glory and to some extent perhaps infamy for their project that made a massive impact on the evolution of online sharing. They got knocked down, but from this there will be a whole new direction for things to go into.
I for one think it is time the music industry got a little more creative in their music distribution models but I have been here and said it all before. In case you were wondering the people taking over are Swedish software company Global Gaming Factory X aiming to turn TPB into a rights abiding and royalty respectful business in line with the original Pirate Bay but aiming to keep the rights holders happy at the same time through new software implementations. I look forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves. PC World is very negative about the future of a legal Pirate Bay saying it will undoubtedly fail. Odds are they are right, but let’s see what happens first.

iPhone 3GS problems
Speaking of PC World, they have an article on a possibly massive drawback to the new iPhone 3GS which may require Apple to issue a partial recall or worse. The phone apparently suffers overheating issues and battery problems. I am not getting into that boat anytime soon and would rather wait a bit to see what transpires with regard to a potentially poisonous iPhone affair for Apple. I don’t think it will end badly, and these things happen from time to time, just ask any other mobile phone manufacturer.
Mobile phones in the EU can charge as one
Probably the most brilliant news for mobile phone users just came off the press in that the majority of EU phone producers have come to an agreement on a universal charger format settling on Micro USB for charging mobile phones. This means any phone model from varying manufacturers can be charged with any charger no matter from what phone. Great idea! This will kick in next year and probably filter down to South Africa anyways because those phones will be sold here too. Happy days for folks who always find themselves looking for a charger because it was left at home or whatever the case may be!
