So what's the difference between the white and black cell c modem?

The white one is R600 or so. for 3G

The black one is R1500 and it's a .5 faster I think? 3G.5

I don't really care about speed anyone have hassles with the white one? Please discuss, thanks
 
No they both are 3G. The black one just uses the full potencial of the network.

You should see what Mtn and Vodacom calls a 3G world class network! lol
 
Well I am looking to save a buck, but I don't want a reduced anything.... or hassles.
21 sounds much better than 7.2

is that the up to speeds of thing again? but how big is the difference for actual browsing and downloading? like 15% faster or something?
 
I'm just testing a friends tonight and I'm getting 2mpbs ... with a 21mbps modem ... on HSPA+
Uploads have been about 2mbps as well and local pings 50ms with internal 300-350mpbs

RSSI is -85db ... whatever that is ;)

Anyway of getting the 5GB on the white modem? I care about data more than speed

-85 dBm is VERY weak. That means the received signal power is 3.16 pW.

Black or white modem makes no difference when you can't get full speed with the white one.

Why aren't you taking the bundle? The E1752 (white) is only R500 and the E1820 (black) only R1000 if you get them as part of the bundle.

Here is my comparison between the E1752 and E1820.
The E1820 is already a lot faster and I think it can go even faster. Currently it is a 21.6Mbps modem, but I have read reports of it being firmware upgradeable to 28Mbps. I don't think Cell-C have fully cranked up their speed either, everywhere I have tested they seem to have a limit of 16Mbps.

The E1820 also has an external antenna connector, although the debate is still open as to what it currently does, see here.

Now it's -81 :/

Signal strength is 98% too

I don't have either, but from what I've read, the speeds are the same on both. One of the devices is "capable" of higher speeds than the other, but the Cell-C network doesn't reach that theoretical speed.

Yeah from my experience with the black and white modems, most of the time you will get 3-5Mbps on either. The White modem is still crazy fast, in fact faster than my 4mbps ADSL, so I reckon that's the way to go.

The black one is a little better looking and slides in and out which is cool I guess.
 
One of them is black the other one white but color doesn't matter anymore in SA.
 
i was told you only get the white one with the 2gb a month (or 24gb for a year) package and the black one with the 5gb (60gb yearly), so i got the white and i see to get 97-99% signal most of the time, although the rainy weather makes it drop lower every once in a while
 
You can unpackage the modem from the data package IIRC, so it's cheaper.

eg. with modem R2999 without modem R1999, but make sure you have a modem compatible with cell c's network.

Yeah I bought the black one, still on Edge.
 
If you live in an area which is unlikely to get a dedicated new Cell C tower with the super high speed, there's no point paying out for the faster modem unless you need the extra gigabytes offered in the promotional package with it.

In fact there's no point in paying out for a modem at all unless you don't already have one -- most are compatible with the existing towers (see the separate thread heading this forum), and their performance on existing networks seems neither better nor worse than the promotional modems.

i didn't have an existing modem, i always used my SE cell as a modem, but with my other cell sim, the phone mostly only picked up edge - i don't think it runs on 900mhz, so thus the reason i got the cell c modem. but i'm thinking of cancelling the 2gb package and getting the 5gb one...or if possible just upgrade
