Not that I don't mind getting 3.1GB for free, I'm just a bit suspicious.

I purchased the mobile "4G" modem from Cell C today with the 2GBx12 prepaid option for R1499. I was informed that my 2GB per month would start in January, and that I would be given 2GB free for the remaining portion of December which would not roll over to January. However, when I got home and checked the balance, it showed that I have 5100MB data. Is this a mistake? Should I use this data? And, if so, thank you very much :D

Prepaid or not, out of bundle usag will set you back 30 odd cents a meg.

Don't try to shnaai them. Assume the sms was an honest mistake and use what you've paid for.

Doesn't matter; I have R0.00 on that SIM and I'm only using it for data. They can't take my airtime if I don't have any and they can't bill me after the fact, because I'm not on contract.

They could find some way of charging you for i would be careful dude. I'm with bobs on this one. Use what you paid for so you do't get shafted

I very much doubt that. Most likely the back-end incorrectly provisioned 5GB data to a 2GB SIM. Only way Cell C is going to figure this out is to get the number from the client or if they discover that their system has done this on a large scale. Regardless the worst they can do IMO is correctly allocate the data in the months going forward. Trying to recoup the money from a pre-paid client for a back-end fault is going to be a PR nightmare.

@Edwe If you want to help Cell C fix their systems PM CellC Guru your number so he can chase it up internally, otherwise enjoy the freebie! They might even grateful for the help and let you keep the bundle ;)

CellC made me sign a doc indicating that out of bundle rates had been explained to me and I am on prepaid as well.

I scheme that this will be legally binding if they send a bill.

Pre-paid means no credit. Only if you deplete your bundle and load airtime will you ever go out of bundle, which is what I assume the documentation was for.

I don't think there is anything to worry about except Cell C allocating the correct 2G bundle in months going forward (which they are entitled to do IMO).
