Australians say R160/month for 12Mbs uncapped too expensive

Australia's proposed National Broadband (fibre) Network is being planned to sell access to retailers for R160/month for 12 Mbs and R256/month for 100 Mbs connections. Yet they are complaining it will be too expensive! We should have such problems :p

The Australian government is planning to spend R256 billion on building this national fibre optic network, but the economic benefits are incalculable. And the idiots "running" this country still think 256k is broadband :(

Please tell them we can swap - they can have Telkom superfast 1kbps uncapped for the low low price of R2000 per month for the first 1GB (which is plenty of data, lets face it) and then R1000 per gig after that.
 
I'm not sure there is much we could do against Telkom. Or maybe we need to do more, like organize boycotts.

But the problem is that they are a government funded and owned monopoly. Does the government care if they make a loss due to mismanagement? No, as long as the right people get a cut from shady tender deals. Therefore, Telkom does not give a fig about us customers. We arent important to them - with government backing, who needs customers?

I hear what you are saying, and I agree. What makes me sick is that this NBN is being funded by the Australian government and will be a government owned monopoly as well. Yet they can manage to do this in order to benefit the whole population, not just a few cronies in high office like here. It's just sickening.
 
hopefully I am going to get my Visa within the next 2 months. Want to go to Canada, USA or Aussie / NZL
 
wow i luv this site. ppl here actually wana leave the country just because they want faster internet! I hope telkom dumps the 384k line this year though

Yes and no, I want faster internet yes. But also want grand equipment without fearing about its safety when I am away from my home.

Want 6x my current salary which is easily attainable in canada or other first world countries.

Want service delivery, and an accountable government with a thinking class rather than a sleeping class that we have in South Africa.

Lots more reasons to leave sa, but internet is just the focus point for me on this site :p
 
I bet none of those "Australians" are Ex-pat South Africans
 
They should stop complaining about nonsense like that and band together to get rid of their internet censorship policies. While they're at it repeal their ridiculous ban on games rated 18+

I'm staying just here because that australian accent is definitely not for me:P

it would be nice though if the South Africa had less problems so we could complain more about the little things
