Question of the Day: How do you normally pay for purchases in stores?
Sinotec 42" LED or Sony Bravia 40" LCD

I'd take the Bravia, but that's just me. Best is to have a look at the TVs in store. Sinotec's warranty will be longer, but the Sony's video processing is likely to be a bit better.

In general the LED would be better but look at the contrast ratios... The LED should be way way better. Also check the response time. The LED should come out on top, both full HD?? Then i'd say the Sinotec should be better but i haven't seen the specs you have.

Edge lit LED really does not have any advantage other than physical thickness of the panel. Their off-angle viewing is a lot worse than CCFL LCD's and they all suffer from severe flashlighting and clouding. Even at the same price, my choice would be the Bravia.

Okay you sound more informed than me. Dont know about "edge lit" or "ccfl'zzz" or other fanciness in your post. So you might be right but i'm not going to google and check.
Just the LED that i have which is a Samsung pc monitor looks amazing next to my 32" LCD. But as i said i dont know much.

Just to clear up for others reading; most common illumination techniques for LCDs are:
1) CCFL backlit
2) LED backlit
3) LED edge lit.
LED backlit gives you the possibility (if it's implemented) of having really good contrast due to local dimming; the LEDs are spread around the panel. It gives you much better light distribution as a result; filters can be simpler and more effective.
LED edge lit gives you a seriously thin panel due to the arrangement of the LEDs along the edge of the panel. There are a number of techniques these days (sophisticated filters, etc) that allow for very good light distrbution, but this is generally only available in higher end models.
In this particular case, without the model numbers of the TVs in question, it's difficult to tell what is best. And in that case, I tend to go for the safer bet.

LED TVs are a type of LCD TV. The distinction is made on the backlight technology: LED backlight vs traditional CCFL backlight

OLED ... those things are no bigger than 15 inches at this stage. The technology is very promising and will most likely surpass both plasma and LCD in future. Still very expensive to produce and I think they still have major problems with the longevity of the blue OLED's, red and green not so much.

Get the Samsung LA40C650 or 630, its an awesome screen... 100Hz
Got the Govern Mani had the 650 on Special for R7600 and DION Wired the 630 for R8000.

Always check for the HDMI inputs in the TVs, almost all the Sony TVs in most stores have SD inputs, the LGs and Samsungs have the HD inputs.
I over heard some lady at Makro punting the Sinotec TVs with HD inputs and saying Sony TVs are bad, the customer believed her because she could see the difference in picture.
