How to open port 3000 on Marconi router

Hi

We have a Marconi ADSL router and Mdaemon setup as a mail server which collects the mail from the domain. It works fine but I would like tobe able to check my mail when away from the office from my laptop through dialup. Been intouch with Mdaemon and they say the port 3000 as set up on the Mdaemon server PC must be opened on the ADSL router as well. Spoken to Telkom and the say it has to be done from the service access provider side and not the router itself. Spoken to MWeb and they rekon they've neverheard of it, it has tobe opened on therouter itself but they don't know the Marconi router and can therefor not help. Please help!
 
On your ADSL modem you need to setup a port forward to the mail server for port 3000. If you battling to do that search the ADSL forum for details on how to do it (since it has been covered many times). There is no need to get SAIX or Mweb involved.
 
Have tried as they instruct but still get "Page can not be displayed" When I use IE to connect through the LAN, I get in without any problem so the problem must be at the router Please help
 
From the LAN, what happens if you enter http://<mdaemon server IP>:3000 in IE?

So setup your Marconi Virtual Server as follows:
Public Port Start: 3000
Public Port End: 3000
Private Port: 3000
Port Type: TCP
Host IP Address: <Internal MDaemon Server IP> The IP you get if you ping the mail server from the LAN.

From the LAN it gives me the login page and I can login. I have setup the Virtual server accordingly. IP address is 192.168.0.110:3000
 
From LAN, enter in IE: http://192.168.0.110:3000

Do you get the login page?

If not, try http://192.168.0.110:80 from the LAN.

If the second setting works the server is not configured to listen on port 3000.

Also, what IP address did you use from the internet to try and connect to the mail server?

Lastly, you flashed the settings and rebooted the router?
 
There is your problem.

When connecting through dialup you must use http://<adsl ip address>:3000 with <adsl ip address> being your DHCP IP address received, and not the mail server IP address.

In other words - use the IP address given at the bottom of http://www.portforward.com/ from the LAN.
eg. Your external IP address is 165...

Is it a webmail type client you want to connect to?

Hi Tried the DHCP IP address as on portforward 198.54.202.242:3000. Still no success. The mail software is MDaemon
 
That is the wrong IP address. 198.54.202.242 is SAIX's cache proxy server.

Copy and paste the results from a DOS tracert via LAN PC:

1) Click Start->Run
2) Enter command <enter>
3) Enter "tracert www.saix.net"
4) Select the results with your mouse
4) Press <enter>
5) Paste (ctrl+v) the results in here
 
Ok.

From your LAN, go into your Marconi setup and look for something like WAN IP address.

It should be something like 165.x.x.x and not the internal 192.x.x.x address.
 
tried again and on 5 it returned wblv-ip-www-1.telkom-ipnet
 
the WAN IP address is same as the LAN 192.168.0.100 (router ip address)
 
Sorry found the WAN address at a different place 165.165.179.153

Verify the IP address 165.165.179.153

I get "Request timed out" when pinging from DOS.
