I lend my modem to my MIL and now I dont have a internet back-up anymore. So I was wondering if I can just get another modem and use it when needed?

Yes I have 2 modems that can be connected that the same time (one at work and one at home) Just when you get the new modem, make sure to let them know you have you old one and want to keep it linked to your account.
