Hey guys, it seems there are some official Vodacom representatives active on the forum so I thought I'd ask here instead of waiting indefinitely for a call from tech support.

I had my number ported from MTN to Vodacom, and today received an SMS saying that the port was successful and that I am now on a Vodacom contract. The thing is, my Vodacom simcard has 0 reception and cannot register on the Vodacom network. My MTN simcard is still going strong on pay-as-you-go (it was switched to prepaid to make the port easier). When I try call off the MTN simcard I get notified that I am out of airtime.

Also, more than 50% of the time if people call me on my MTN simcard (well, same number, but that's the sim that's still active), they hear the phone ringing and then go to voicemail, but I get NO indication that someone is trying to call me, not even a missed call.

I called Vodacom customer care (082 111) and they informed me that according to their systems everything is in order, and they don't know what's wrong. If anyone has any ideas, please share, I was kind of expecting something like this to happen.

EDIT: Would you believe it, not 5 minutes after making this post it decides to work. Maybe it's because I tried the sim in another phone, maybe not. Maybe it's just mybb being useful by default :)

EDIT EDIT: right, looks like I'm not quite out of trouble yet. USSD services like *111# aren't working (which means I can't get gprs/3G settings) and when I called 155 I found out that I have 39.9MB out of my 110MB bundle remaining... WTF???

Does anyone know what might be going on here :wtf:

Ask 155 to help you do a manual setup of the internet and mms settings, very easy. You should get 1/3 of your data, with it being the 21st, and you'll get billed 1/3.

i see porting is still a perilous business. i am dreading it when my mtn contract is up in feb next year

From my experience, it takes a few hours to port completely. During those hours, half of the stuff works on one card and some on the other. How long are you having these issues for?

Is this still ongoing? Remember if you keep the Voda sim switched on before the port was done and keep it on it wont register on the network. You have to reboot the phone so that it can register properly. By the next morning all should be sorted and all services should be up and running.

ah yes. it seems that by "your number has been successfully ported" they actually mean "we put it on the system now you have to wait for the port to finish". It all seems to be working now. It's just really confusing because earlier they told me they'll port the number and I must wait 2-24 hours, and more than 24 hours later I got the sms saying it was successful, yet nothing was working.

As for the data, I didn't know they only give you according to how late in the month it is. Then that's cleared up as well. Why don't they tell customers that porting seems to be a bit wacky and it might not port everything immediately O_o

Anyways thanks guys
