I've signed up for the free account last week. Now today I've received an invoice via email for R25 that will be charged on 1 Jan. Huh, so it is not FREE, I smell false advertising.

I've emailed support and got no response.

I've emailed [email protected] twice regarding a different issue with RICA and got no response.

All mail (besides their automated system messages) send to my newly created mailbox that as per there T & C is the only mailbox I'm allowed to use get bounced back with the following error: 550 relay denied (state 14), what ever that means.

No, even if it were truly free (R25 is not free) internet it would still be to expensive in terms of heartache. Now the question, how do I get rid of this service when no one responds to my emails?

I think their normal T&Cs say something about cancellations must be made via fax

cybersmart are a bunch of clowns, its disgusting that they get to call themselves an "isp"

Thinking of cybersmart gives me indigestion. But I like them for because I support competition :)

No, I am going to have to disagree with you all.

I have been a Cybersmart user for a number of years. I have found the quality of their service to be reliable and efficient. By that I mean their links and their speed.

On a number of occasions I have communicated with Laurie, the owner, who is really on the ball. He is always willing to help. They only have UNSHAPED service, which is why they don't have a 24/7 uncapped option. They had a pilot of which I was part, but it turned out being unfeasible for their business model (remember: no shaping). The also don't throttle your line. They prefer to be your line owner because then they don't have to squeeze a 4mbps line to the 384kbps you pay for.

A feature I like is their Night Rider feature. For example, you have a 10 mbps line with a 15GB cap, but then between 2am and 5am downloads are free - they don't come off your cap. Do the math. On this unshaped service you can download more than you would ever want to. And the fee for that is R799. I am just waiting for my exchange to support 10 mbps. I can't wait.

When I had a billing query, it was sorted out easily - using their mail system, which whilst a bit clunky always worked for me.

Give them a chance, or if you don't come right, write a mail directly to laurie@cybersmart - I know he will help you.

Say that again. Number 1 & 2 above does not even begin to make sense to me in any way...

Smells rather fishy. If you are getting 1GB free then there should be no charge. Otherwise advertise that the cost will be R25. There is so much of this going around with ISP's today, i wish they could be transparent and tell us straight.

Are you sure you didn't sign up to Nightrider as well? That costs R25. Your detailed invoice should show what the R25 is for?

From the night rider page:
In order to subscribe to this service you need:

* an ADSL circuit with Cybersmart

I don't have my circuit with cybersmart so in theary I can't be subscribed to night rider. I did have a look at the night rider option, but I'm pretty sure I did not subscribe to it. The invoice show the following:

OH, wait, just logged into my online invoice and the amount is now changed to R0.00. Thank you Cybersmart. I've however send a fax to cancel the account this morning, so that is fine. I won't go near them again.

It is just very unprofessional of them to give no feed back as to what is going on, no responses to the emails I've send. Oh well, just wanted to share my experience.

Glad to hear it's sorted out. Cybersmart's service is very poor, particularly the call centre. The only guy who knows how to fix things is Laurie, everyone else is either arrogant or clueless.
