My apologies if this has been asked previously in a thread, I can’t find anything

Okay, my question is should I use the 24p setting on my xtreamer when watching HD movies on my Samsung PS42C430 ?, I have googled 24P but nowhere can I get a clear answer, apparently all movies are shot in 24p, but it should be watched in 60i, then why does the xtreamer and the samsung have a 24p function?

Can someone please give some clarity on 24P, should it be used?, is it better?

It gives you that real movie "film" look ... most people prefer that and says that if you switch on all the motion de-judder settings it actually makes movies look like soap operas. Give both a try, and just stick to what you prefer.

i did quickly try it last night but could not see a diffrence, but i will try again tonight :), thanks for your reply
 
24hz playback.

that's what it stands for. Anyways... your TV has to be compatible and you need to have connected via HDMI. Your player will recognize your TV as compatible and the option will become available.
The picture does look really pretty... but I wouldn't rush out and buy a whole new TV JUST for this feature. The only movies where you'll see a "blow your hair back, OMFG it's so amazing" effect will be the animated Blu-Rays. I watched Kung-Fu Panda on a 24Hz system playback and I thought that it was really awesome.

The thing is... some TV's upscale images and you have that "Unnatural movement" kinda look to it... kinda like those charlie chapman clips where the characters on screen speed up at random times. That is all because of the interlacing frames to upscale movies from normal res to HD. Along comes blu-ray... and the picture is superb already, but some TV's are still trying to upscale the "already HD" signal. Different makes have different "super turbo picture boost double plus awesome frame enhancer deluxe"... so Blu-Ray playback comes with a neat feature where your player and Tv communicate with one another and turn all that shyte off and play the movie back at the pre-prescribed "best settings" on the disc. It's kinda like "pure-audio" on your sound equipment.

Facts:
1) 99% of blu-rays are upscaled at the source. Except for animated films and those shot in IMAX (like The Dark Knight). So the difference is not very noticeable.
2) Turn all that picture enhancing stuff off. Run a THX picture setup thingie (available on the Star Wars DVD's but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere) and setup the contrast, colour and brightness to the correct baseline... then adjust to personal preference. NO PICTURE ENHANCER WORKS BETTER THAN WHAT YOU PREFER!
3) 24Hz Playback is only available on Blu-Ray playback.
4) 24Hz playback does not automatically make the movie better... you only REALLY notice the difference if the media allows for it. Some blu-Rays have shocking picture quality.
5) 24Hz playback is usually only available on LED and high end TV sets. If you current TV does not support 24Hz playback... I wouldn't throw it away and rush to the stores to spend more cash on a set that does... it is not worth it as a stand alone feature.
6) Rather spend the money on better sound

Advice:
1) If your TV supports it, great... it makes nice pictures look nicer... and great pictures look awesome. See what you prefer.
2) If your TV DOESN'T support 24Hz playback... don't worry about it. It's not worth the spend FOR SOLELY that feature.

I really try to only give advice when I at least kind of know what I'm talking about ... and I also don't want to get into a personal battle with anyone, but this ^^^^^^ is really just a word salad that should be discarded completely.

Erm, no, you're the one that sounds like a salesperson ... when you know what you're talking about come back. When you're just guessing and contradicting yourself don't label it as "Facts:", cause what followed was an absolute load of rubbish ...
 
If you download movies and TV shows from wherever, you will find too most of them are encoded at 24fps or 23.97fps. TV shows even distributed at SD definition are 24fps as they are usually encoded from a HD source, so with the 24fps feature on, content your Xtreamer and your TV will look a lot smoother.
I am not familiar with the XStreamer. I have a Mede8er myself, but if there is not a file info feature, check out the content on a PC with VLC's Codec Information.
