Well, at least not here in Leisure Bay, KZN.

And the problem is more distributed as well. Can't make any outbound calls or establish data sessions (now using my Cell C SIM as fallback). When an outbound call is made on MTN, the handset responds with a "Network busy" error. Been like that since around 8pm on the 24th.

Nice going MTN - claiming you're ready and actually being ready are two different things alltogether.

Anyone who actually believes what these companies say needs their heads read.

Well, obviously. The flaw is in the logic: if you have to advertise that your network is ready for a busy season, then obviously it isn't during normal time or wasn't ready in previously busy seasons.

The advertisement just smacks of trying to cover up bad service during the rest of the year and that they only pull their fingers out of their rears when they think eyes are on them.

How to explain... Simply, if that's your advertisement, then I don't buy it for one second.

the last time i complained abt that i was told its normal during the festive season

Well I'm at the beach with more than 70 000 people and only 1 tower looking over the entire beach. You can imagine the network traffic on that tower. The masses allways flock here every December but the tower still can't cope.

Its pointless to upgrade cause it happens once a year....

It's with this that I disagree, on two points:

1. It's the one time of the year that I *really* want to be able to make calls to friends and family
2. Vodacom and Cell C seems to be able to get it right, why can't MTN?

It's situations like these that will make me (and others) port to a competing network - so if they don't see the point of upgrading their towers, I don't see the point of staying with MTN. It's really that simple - and if MTN doesn't get it and start to work on these type of incidents, they'll start to feel the pinch in their bottom line over time as their customer base slowly erodes and migrates to networks that do work.

Ok I understand what you are saying. So let me actually rephrase what I said.

'Its pointless to MTN cause it happens once a year and it would be a unnecessary expense'

vodacom has done it ? which year ? last year i was in durban, I was on voda, mom is on voda. New years eve, couldn't get through from 11.30 til 3.30 the next morning. I would hardly call that "getting it right"
