This company is coining it!

They now have 1.2million DStv subscribers paying R399 a month!

Thats roughly R479million a month!

Thats billions a year, hell i almost fell of my chair when I read that! Actually I almost had a mild stroke

For channels like National Geographic they are paying $0.16 per month per subscriber.

Then each transponder costs them $20million a year.

They have about 600 staff to pay.

What the F8ck are they doing with the rest of the money???

P.S. The Dstv website reckons jay jay the jet plane is one of the highlights on Dstv today! F8ck yeh!

Still... Monochoice looks like a fantastic deal compared to TELKOM. Tons of live sport, the latest music videos, world class movie premierres and some of the hottest TV Series for R400pm, compared to Telscums near R1000p/m for a 3 gig cap, and a pathetic excuse for broadband.

They sure do have a nice thing going! This is why they have got together with Telkom (who also have a very nice thing going) to trial Video/TV over 'broadband'. They see the writing on the wall, and if they are not first out of the starting blocks, someone else will be.
However, I think with the convergence and hopefully some REAL broadband on the horizon, they are a sitting duck, as some young hungry entrepreneur will come up with a nice product that will enable us to watch USA, UK and any other TV over broadband very soon!
Just another SA company sucking every last cent out of the people whilst it can. I must say I prefer watching discovery, national geographic over SABC1,2,3 & ETV, so I will remain one of the suckers.

I really dont see what is wrong with Multichoice making large profits. In fact it is great to see our companies performing that well. And DSTV provide an excellent service, so even better

ummm so they only have national geo and discovery?

what about forumla 1?
up to 7 soccer matches from england
spain
south africa

live cricket
international rubgy
local rubgy

movies they show

tell me for the amount of sport on supersport is it not worth 400 a month?

please stop having a go at companies who charge a decent amount

if you dont watch sport dont get dstv

but fr me who loves cricket soccer and rubgy this thread is idiotic

That's a joke, right?

no they give us alot

i think for 400 there is so much to watch

geez is there no company you guys wont complain about

400 rand for 30 days of alot of tv is not alot

I really wish you could get DSTV package with NO sport ...

It would provbably be worth about R45 p/m ...

But then again they need to get money for the screaming idiots (I mean supporters ;) ) for the 700 sports channels ...

I think they still offer the dstv-light with just a few chanels, but it would be nicer if you had MULTIchoice on those packages. But since I think that most of their expenditure goes for covering live events which in most cases are sports, that's where most of our subs is going.

I was checking the site the other day they where reckoning BBC news is a highlight...

DSTV is roughly the same price as Sky in the UK. Sky show up to date movies on about 22 different 24 hour movie channels.

DSTV pump out 12 year old films that should be on Etv. It's a rip off.

Alot of the other channels are on C-Band for free... but on a multitude of satellites. Only the DSTV ones are not... oh and Supersport neither ... lemme cry... there done!

They cant split the channels, they will loose too many customers and they have a problem already with cancellations.....

So the remedy is - put more sh.t on interactive... Ed,Edd and Eddy Games and PlayJam. Whoooohooo! that alone must be worth a truck load of cash every month!

You can hardly compare sky with dstv. 1.2 million subscribers vs. at least 10 million or more subscribers.

I reckon if you like sport then dstv is way better than sky.

I still think DStv could give us "so much more"

The sport is good yes, I just wish they didn't play their "you drive me crazy" ad every 5 minutes.

I've had DStv for almost 8 years now and have seen everything 100 times.

The only reason to keep it is the sport and Discovery/National Geographic and news channels.

Im not saying DStv is bad, but for the price there is a lot more they could do!

I think the approach is same as telkom's ...

1) People are paying
2) there is no competitions
3) We increase prices and nobody can do anything

therefore they don't need to give us any more .... and they take away stuff we need ....

I NEED SCI-FI CHANNEL BACK !!!!
