I have posted about my DSTV forum experiences before. I recently however got wrapped accross the knuckles for calling the DSTV EPG department incompetent.

I was awarded with a strongly worded reply telling me to re-read the forum and DSTV online policies - apparently one is not allowed to critisize DSTV personnel in any way or form or say 'negative' things about MC and DSTV while posting on their forum (I will paste the DSTV reply here for those interested).

I was then subsequently banned from the forum (again) and asked to "rethinkmy bad attitude towards the company and DSTV personnel".... WTF! lol... lol.. :D pass the crayons please...(why does it feel like my bottom was spanked?)
 
Yes yes yes, pls paste their reply...

I don't even bother reading their forums or writing to it anymore, just let it be known that I am bitterly disappointed with their HW products (the HD PVR in particular. I still fail to understand how a company like them can get away with the crap they sell (crap as in buggy... seriously buggy). And the promises of fixes (since the HD PVR launch!) have still no materialized. Here I go again, get my blood pressure up. I'll stop now.
 
Let's organize an invasion of the DSTV forums. No matter how hard they argue, they are not permitted to block negative statements/reviews under the Consumer Protection Act.
 
Hard to believe, but I still have the original decoder we acquired when DSTV first came out, although I did change it once, but the model is the same, 720i or something like that. At the time I took it in for repair or swap out I thought to buy a new one, but the person at the counter insisted I signed a new contract so I left it. I have a thing about signing contracts with many pages of legalese while standing in a queue.

If I had to count how many times I have reset that bloody thing over the years, I should be awarded a brand new decoder for all our troubles. Do the new decoders also have to be reset at times?

I still have my original PVR device... and I also need to reset it weekly!

So my suspicions are confirmed. These devices need to be reset either way, new or older machines.
I think I will stay with what I have for the moment. But it has been annoying over the years, you pay R500 odd per month and it has be reset all the time. Not to mention it keeps resetting the language option.

Anyway. Moving on. New Year. Don't feel like bashing Monochoice today.
 
I don't know why people still stick with DSTV. They are one of the worst companies in the world.

For what it is worth it is cheap entertainment. Consider what it would cost you to take your family out for supper.
I would miss my favourite channels if I cancelled. 410, 412, 121, 250, 251, 254 and a Movie now and then if it isn't another repeat.
The movies and especially series channels I couldn't be bothered with. Sport too for that matter.

My "kids" are now a lot older. Daughter likes Trance parties, hardly ever see her watching DSTV. My son watches BBC (120) of all the channels as he enjoys english humour. It is either that, maybe a movie or that darned channel 124, Girls of the Playboy Mansion of the flippin Kardashians. Eish, what a load of rubbish those reality channels. He just told me he likes Top Gear. Figures as he now almost 20 years old and has a drivers licence.

The missus and I rarely watch broadcast television - we don't have enough patience to rely on watching what multichoice thinks we should be watching and when we should be watching it.

We tried the scaled down flavours of DSTV but the channels made available to us weren't particularly suitable for my kids - esp the cartoon network.

I also don't watch much sport on tv - which probably sounds odd considering my chosen profession. :D
 
Me - sport, news, business channels and BBC-E (120)
Wife - home channels and all the Discovery/NatGeo channels
Kids - movies, cartoons, music (and the music audio channels)

Talking about sport. ESA had some awesome angling. I would love to be able to log on and download those videos from DSTV. I tried, but it said I needed an uncapped ADSL MWeb account. Errr...no thanks. Not since I have been whoooshed.

It is because their hands smells of testicles. With Supersport they have your left testicle half-way in hand, with the kids wanting CBeeBees, they have your right testicle fully in hand and with "Desperate HouseWife Hospital Crying Extreme Make Over of Army Wife" type shows, they complete the grip 100%.

They have that 20% we want to see and will overcharge us for the remaining 80% as they like.


If it wasn't for the kids or the wife, DSTV would have been long gone. Ripp-off artists at their best...
 
I am so happy now - I changed to DSTV "Easy View" and TopTV. Its a perfect combination with virtually no repeats on DSTV content while TopTV content is also "fresh" for me

The720i isn't even close to the first DSTV decoder. They launched with the Pace 500 , followed by the Pace 610, Pace 630, various Panasat models, the Dsd 660, the 720 then the 720i in 2000.

The 720i was probably the best but not without its problems.

The 1131 probably has the fewest problems in terms of come backs but doesn't have a display.

Every DSTV decoder has needed periodic reboots.

I would love to get away from them but I watch cricket and F1, and occasionally rugby. I just dont know how to get around that
