How many times have we heard this or something quite similar when referring to Telkom? I think for the most part it is like this when talking about Telkom especially here.

Well just take a few moments and think about it.

I have had quite a lot of dealing with Telkom employees and have actually found the opposite most of the time. Most of the actual workers seem to take quite a bit of pride in what they do. The answer to this is the fact that they actually enjoy what they do and take it as a personal achievement to do the best for that particular task being performed. At time we tend to even acknowledge that they are people with feelings, taking badly to them or about them when they are around.

Don’t you think eventually it get a bit much if you as an individual are doing all you can to get the best out of what you do?

The other day in a big department store the following came over the public address system. “Will the telephone man please contact reception”? Hmmm… yes Telephone Man, I think in today’s times we have progress further than a Telephone Man with the ever increasing demand for technologies. How did this Technician feel, well I don’t know as I did not speak to him.

I bet if I stripped you down you'd be wearing Telkom branded undies...

Nope, It’s just that there is some great content here but you have to sift through tons of “I hate Telkom” to get to it. At times I would like to hear some thing positive and not just the negative time after time after time.

I am sure there are plenty people here that have had positive encounters not only with Telkom but other companies we so easily run down ;)

"His staff of 40 have no access to a phone, not even a cell phone." So is this because Telkom don't want them too have one?

this formum is mainly against telkom and anything about thelkom, so you will most likely not hear anything good about them and be flamed for suggesting that they are good.

But in defence of the forum, we are balancing the force here.

Strong with the dark side, telkom is and we are but a young jeddi.

Hey Slowgo. Yes and no. 2 out of every ten Telkom employess might be as you suggested, the majority are either dense or they just don't give a rats ass...
I have had good experiences with Telkom, yes. BUT, only after about every 5 bad experiences...

I'm on the telephone to them twice every single month since I opened my Telkom account to solve the mysterious way they calculate these accounts.. ...and not just the accounts, also the strange way they have of dealing with their customers. It seems there is no defintie system in place, or better yet it seems when you lodge a complaint, you fall into some sort of sliding scale system, where you get referred to different levels of emplyees depending on how many times you phone in...

..who knows?

Hmmmmm …….. Yes. Then if this forum is just about bashing Telkom without any real results are we all not just wasting our time? I would like to think that any input here might actually have some positive result. It’s great to be able to vent but without any results what's the point?

Are the employees who have viewed my email asking about November without responding good? They could have forwarded it to someone capable of answering, but they obviously did not as I am still awaiting a reply after 3 weeks.

What about those who deleted without reading it?

It was addressed to telkomadsl support address as per their web.

Is this the way of working of a responsible company?

After getting no responses am I not frustrated enough to say FCUCK them all. Arseholes.

It's not the employees' faults they are let down by the systems and ppl higher up.

Also do remember that the sparks higher up who make the decisions laid off over 30,000 employees so the workload on Telkom staff has literally doubled.

ye ye - feel sorry for the workers... ... F#^k telkom anyway!

I cannot recall when last i have had good service from them. The're support staff don't know what they're doing, i had to phone back 5 times the other day eventually screaming and yelling just to get the DAMN correct dialup number for my client

The "Madam" sitting at Davenport Center Telkom (Dbn) is more interesting in batting his eyelids at me when i want to exchange an DSL modem, and forever makes me wait a day or two get stock from wherever, when it arrives i cannot get there quick enough to fetch it, and say's " should i send it back?" for F@#$%^K sakes get a vibrator.

Oh and the latest irritation... My payday is usually on the 27th. I get my statement from Telkom "Pay on the 26th." so i called them and arranged that it should be made on the first of every month as i'm not willing to pay penalties on each late payment. So they said okay they have placed the request, and for only that month i would have to pay a penalty for late payment. Needless to say, i paid the account at 12:30 that morning and got nailed for it. This month comes... and ITS STILL NOT CHANGED. When i called, the sloth on the other end confidently said to me " We have the request, but you WILL JUST HAVE TO PAY MORE INTEREST"

so - should i feel sorry for Telkom and their employees... maybe not all of them - its the monkey's that deals with the public that DOES NOT HAVE A CLUE.

PLEASE NOTE i call them MONKEYS not because its RACE related, its BECAUSE THEY ARE CLEARLY FROM THE STONEAGE AND THUMBS AT THEIR HEAD WHEN THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND AND COME UP WITH IDIOTIC ANSWERS TO PISS THE PUBLIC OFF!. (Yes, pick your colour, whites, blacks, indians and other creatures under our rainbow nation - ALL OF THEM)

so "Slowgo" YOU be nice to them

:) - i love typing in caps - lol

The grass is always greener on the other side! YES we have all heard this, how many of us have tried the grass on the other side only to find out it’s not that green. I am sure we could make a list as long as you want about companies that act in the same way. What do we do run away each time if does not work out, or do we try and do something about it.

My point was that we sit here only looking at the negative ranting on and on and in fact really doing nothing about it.

We sit here and post read post read post and read to whom? To each other in hopes that just by seeing that you are not the only one in this boat it will change the fact you in the boat in the first place.

Well for my part I would actually like this boat to have some destination and actually get there and achieve something.

yeah i agree with mad, the reason telkom is so inefficient is because of the wankers higher up laying off half the workforce so that they can receive better salaries. hence the long wait listening to classical music when you do phone in. but i found generally once you get through, the guys on the other side do seem sincerely sorry about the bad service, but they are not the ones to blame. yet most of the time they are the ones who get sworn at and threatened and i think thats unfair. same with the technicians that get sent out, they generally know what they doing and are normally pleasant to deal with, however the reason they get sent out after such a long wait is because half the workforce has been fired. if we need to blame anyone, blame the tossers higher up the ranks who sit around doing nothing but thinking of ways to screw everyone over (their own employees included) while enriching their own lives

Telkom techies should take bashing when directed at them.

Its kinda like the thing your mamma told you when you were young, "You are, who you are friends with"

So if someone work for a disgusting company, then they will get labelled alike.

but thats just the thing, with *so* much of fixed line competition in the market, they don't really have much of a choice of where to apply their skills. they have to now effectively do double the normal workload since half the previous staff is gone. these guys are human too, at some point they bound to get frustrated as well. the fat cats higher up however don't seem human, only thinking of themselves and ways to get their millions

How can there be anything positive to say about TELKOM if they steal between R500-1000 per month for a degraded service, and it will get worse on 1 Nov. We do not slam the employees, there is some good guys, they do not get the profits contorted from us. Telkom is an entity not a human

we are always talking about the company and not the employes.

Personally I don't hold anything against Telkom's employees - only those higher up who decide on products and prices.. now THOSE.. THOSE I will drive over if I see them crossing the street.

I'd buy a red car just to get away with it!

Disturbing stuff:

* My internet is as good as it was in 1997.
* My dad (on his farm) still has a 'crank', manual exchange telephone.
* His staff of 40 have no access to a phone, not even a cell phone.

Most of the Rural towns now have Siemens EWSD DLU telephone exchanges, just the rural farming areas
that lack SOR18 or new Digital automatic rural cariier system

Install a Asterisk VoIP PBX in town with some PSTN Digium cards
Wireless Link out to your Dad's Farm with VoIP phone

Telkom exchange <-> Asterisk PBX <----> Wireless Link <-----> Farm.

If you spoke to his neighbours you could band together and finance
a VoIP/Wireless system with free calls between your neighbours and also
could share Digital Video images with Axis (www.axis.com) IP cameras
monitoring remote secondary roads, also your farm for stock theft in the "hot" areas
On 20 farms in the Hogsback/Cathcart areas farmers lost R1 million
in stock theft = R50k /farmer.

Telkom is still to blame, no training at all, give them a piece of paper with the answer to most common questions, my point... my phone line is down but the ADSL line is working. 4 days ago I phone faults to be told no I must phone ADSL, I dont' see the point but comply, phone ADSL, explain again that my phone is down but my ADSL line is fine, after a silence I am then asked what modem I am using, lucky I have a telkom modem at the moment as my router went faulty, again silence and they eventuqally give me a work number, since then I have on average 4-5 calls a day, including 1 from Pretoria advising me that if the fault is due to me, eg: left the phone of the hook (their favourite answer) I will be responsible for the callout and again they confirm that I have ADSL but no phone, eventually this morning I explain very patiently that phone and ADSL have different cables and the phone cable has been eaten by ants and there is now a big nest where there used to be a cable, and this is the reason I have ADSL but no phone only to be told I was not qualified to make a diagnosis, that is from the same people that have 7 pieces of cable not acnnected to anything (I have 2 lines +ADSL) haging in my driveways after they came to tidy up...bring on the Prozac LOL
