Game pots and pans - total rubbish

Our beloved wedding present frying pan after nearly 4 years of constant use finally wore off all of the teflon. So we went to Game over the holidays to buy a new pan. The first one we got was a lovely big unit with a glass lid and the whole works; took it home, used it twice, and noticed that the teflon was already coming off.

So we took it back, got refunded. Decided rather to get a set of cast iron pots and a smaller frying pan. After one use the pot is already showing signs of rust, and now yesterday after its second use the frying pan's bottom is melting and the food has calcified to the surface. I've never seen such lousy quality before. So now our family and family's family have collectively been put off pretty much all Game homeware. Has anyone else found the same?
 
wouldn't buy homeware from game.
i went shopping there over christmas and noticed how a lot of their store is now just filled with chinese junk.
electronics and sports sections still look okay.

that said, perhaps get in touch with their buying dept (head office) and let them know about your disappointment.
the staff on the ground in game stores are probably the worst i've come across in any store (lazy sticker ninjas)
perhaps you can get a refund and go to another massmart store. isn't makro part of the same group?
 
Well we'll get our money back, that's not the issue. I mean ok at the end of the day we just get our refund and go on with life, it's not something we'll need major counselling for. But I'm just appalled at the quality of this stuff. If it was one item ok, but consecutively every item we've bought has turned out to be a huge bust.
 
Think that is where the Consumer Protection Act is gonna reduce the rubbish (cheap chinese imports robbing sa jobs) are gonna reduce on the shelves.
 
We got some Woolies stainless steel pots and utensils as wedding gift - and these still are going strong after 10 years of use (and abuse) :)

Never bought any kitchen utensils from Game so far.
 
If you want quality non stick pots and pans and are willing to pay for it, this is the way to go: http://www.woll.co.za/

Honestly the best non stick pans I have ever used! You can use steel implements, forks and whatever without damaging the non stick surface. My oldest Woll pan is about 4 years old now, still no signs of losing its surface.

How well did you season the cast iron pots? Cast iron rusts which is why you never wash it with soap and you wipe it down with cooking oil when you're done. In return you get a pot/pan that will last generations.
 
I got one of those inside grill things you can use to braai inside from Game, and it melted the first time we used it. Wont be using Game again.

A decent pan or pot will set you back R400 to R600, and it will last a lifetime,
you might think it is too expensive, but I disagree, it is an excellent investment.

I saw their demonstration at last year's Good Food & Wine Show; was seriously impressed. This is definitely value for money but a bit on the expensive side though.

Fantastic, then go for it. I am very happy with my pots and pans, some of which my daughter burnt really badly,
just soaked them in water and soap overnight, and they were easy to clean afterwards.
 
I bought a Bauer pan for Christmas, they really are as good as they say.
 
Well I've been hearing mixed reviews of bauer pans as well. My wife's mother and her sister are quite unhappy with theirs.
 
I havent had problems with mine, have had it probably just under a month now. Cleans easily, food just doesnt stick. Non stick coating has lasted well so far.
 
If money was not an issue, my kitchen would be 100% equipped with Le Creuset pots, pans and crockery.

It's what I call kitchen porn :)
