Hi All,

I'm hoping maybe someone can help me out here. the Northbridge fan on my mobo toasted so I need to replace it quick. I don't want any downtime on my PC and having the board replaced with not solve the problem, I'll just just get another board with the same crappy fan.

So yeah, does anyone know where I can score a 40x40x10mm fan?

I temporarily rigged an amd cpu cooler to cool it, but 127C is a little hot! the fan is literally being suspended my my SATA cables! ha ha ha!

Ah nevermind. I use Speedfan to monitor my temps and it was reporting a temperature wrong (the 127C thing!) so all is well temp wise.

Still anyone who wants to buy an Asus A8n-SLi Deluxe watch out for the crappy Northbridge Fan and replace the damn thing as soon as you can!

I'll be trying to get the ASUS A8N SLI Premium or the ASUS A8N32 SLI-D. No fan. Heatpipe technology. :)

I DID miss it. Next time I search first then ask questions! hah!

Meanwhile screwed an 8cm fan onto my HDD (Yep! Hard Drive) and it's running nicely! Booya. Nice temporary solution until my new replacement (Vantec Iceberg IF I'm brave, or my new 4cm fan) arrives from overseas.

A RARE miss for ASUS.

Suppliers are required by Law to keep parts for three years (used to be five) I must say that computer suppliers seem to be a law unto themselves, however I would suggest that you contact the people you purchased the PC / MB and if they do not want to supply the part post it here

Other than that, as you found out the HD caddie fans will work, so will the Old P1 CPU fans. BTW a while back the Gigabyte fans were world famous for their screaming

Didn't know Gigabyte fans were crazy too. I have a GB board as well and luckily no problems.

Anyway I'm not going to bother about the fan, because even if they do replace it, it will prob be the same crap asus NB fan which won't help. My new fans are on their way and we shall see how tough it will be to replace the NB heatsink.

Will let you all know if I blow anything up! :D

i have a Asus a8n-sli deluxe, my chipset fan also started making a huge noise and started vibrating and eventually stopped working, it never got to hot without but rather be safe than sorry, i went to my suppliers, they sent it up to j burg and in 3 days the motherboard was replaced with the new technology fan, been a few months now and everything is working perfectly.

My friend had the exact same problem, he thought he would be clever and put a new chipset fan on himself, he somehow messed up the board and voided his warranty. He then went and bought the same spec Biostar board, and that is working for him perfectly.

Moral of the story, rather get it replaced, the price of a new board is not better than a few pc days downtime

Ahh. Bob, thats a very good thing to bring up. replacing the NB heatsink is a job and I've read up on ppl taking out their secondary IDE channel so there is a crazy risk there!

I'm NOT gonnna even try it (and I don't suggest anyone else does either). I've broken my friends radio, fridge door, and many of my own stuff :D. I'm just gonna take out the fan (easy) and screw on the 4cm fan I've bought. nice and simple. no fancy stuff. the fan is 4x4x1cm so it'll fit easily!

Still I can't afford the downtime right now, too many projects! heheh
