Broadband users want more for their money

Telkom has announced that they are currently testing IPTV services and many of the mobile service providers are beginning to realise the importance of providing content to customers.

Why would a current DSTV viewer want DSTV streaming through their broadband pipe ? I would rather have more bandwidth than extra content that I already have.

If there was an alternative to Telkom offering the exact same packages for even 10 bucks less a hell of a lot of people will change over just based on principle.

We are still lagging behind here with broadband and pricing thereof, but Telkom has the ability to put SA on an equal footing with countries we do business with, but they're too greedy and are milking their slow, sub-standrard products for what they are worth. Even ISDN, they invested in ISDN infrastructure instead of ADSL in the 90's, probably on the insistence of SBC who knew they could sap more money from us with ISDN line rental and per-call charges instead of flat rate ADSL.

Nice article Cara! Thanks!

They're such morons! Why don't they first fix the issues they have with normal landlines and ADSL before jumping onto a new money making racket? It just doesn't make sense! :(

Edit: Doesn't make sense for us, the consumers, but, unfortunately, it does make sense to the shareholders!

Imagine being capped while you are watching the latest toi-toi through the internet or Ivy's resignation speech (I wish). I think Telkom must first give us true ADSL (No shaping, no capping and speed that you subscribe for) before wasting money on "triple-play" as no sane ADSL user will subscribe to it with the current rip-off prices.

well with tv moving to become digital(digital broadcast, more paytv channels comming etc[dstv/mnet monopoly ending :D ]) i don't really see the point of making iptv xcept per haps per per view movies etc.. just think you pay for the movie you wanna watch and 1/2 way thru you get reconnected since you failed to realise when the last 12 hr disconnect was.. but wait, you're capped too cause its a hardcap and every byte counts
